Required Qualifications: (as evidenced by an attached resume)
Doctoral degree (or foreign equivalent) in Microbiology, Biochemistry, Cell Biology, or a closely related field in hand by the start of the appointment. Candidates must have received their PhD or foreign equivalent within the past 2 years to be eligible for this early-stage postdoctoral training position. Experience with bacterial cultures and aseptic technique. Experience with molecular approaches to study bacterial survival and antibiotic resistance.

Preferred Qualifications: 

     Experience with bacterial genetics.

     Experience with protein biochemistry and functional assays.

     Experience with mouse infection models.

Brief Description of Duties:  
The Postdoctoral Associate will assist the Principal Investigator, Dr. Hwan Kim, in the department of Microbiology and Immunology. Please visit the Kim Laboratory to learn more about our department/research. The incumbent will conduct research and ensure that all experiments are appropriately conducted following the policies and procedures of Stony Brook University.

     Perform experiments with Staphylococcus aureus and study the underlying genetic and molecular mechanisms evading small molecules that are designed to neutralize essential biological and virulence functions.

     Conduct experiments with recombinant approaches to define mutations impacting Staphylococcus aureus biology and pathogenesis using in vitro and in vivo models.

     Document data generated in studies, analyze data with appropriate statistical methods, prepare manuscripts for publication in scientific journals and presentations for laboratory meetings and national conferences, assist with grant proposals, protocols, and compliance reports.

     General laboratory maintenance and assist laboratory manager.

     Other duties as assigned.

FLSA Exempt position, not eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. Minimum salary threshold must be met to maintain FLSA exemption.
