YOUR RESPONSIBILITY AND TASKS
SUMMARY:
As a Maintenance Technician you will, diagnose, repair and rebuild a variety of electrically, mechanically or hydraulically operate equipment, such as coaters, towers, roll mill, ovens, presses, slitters, mixers, reactors, boilers, tanks and machine shop equipment. Remove and replace components, adjust and calibrate as necessary. Operate standard machine ship equipment to make or repair parts as required. Move material and equipment to on site as necessary.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND REPSONSIBILITIES:
Facilities:
Standard machine shop metal removal equipment such as lathes, drills, saws, grinders. Welding equipment, measuring equipment, conduit pipe and tubing, benders, electrical testing equipment, arc and gas welding equipment, hand and power tools, material handling equipment, ladders and scaffolding, trucks. Protective equipment.
Materials:
Standard machine components, ferrous and non-ferrous castings, plate stock tubing, lubricants, gases, welding electrodes, oxygen acetylene, welding and brazing alloys, wire, conduit, pipe, tubing, switch boxes, motors, pumps, terminal boxes, raceways, warning tags, wood, tile, switches.
Work Directions:
Occasionally may direct a production operator in operating specific equipment for the purpose of evaluation, testing or other temporary operations.
Working Procedure:
Perform one of the following functions:
Mechanical:
Working from manuals or verbal instructions, repair or rebuild completely standard, special or complex machine tools, facilities and equipment. Examine, analyze and diagnose condition, cause and the extent of damage. Disassemble equipment and locate faulty or broken parts on minor and major breakdowns or disassemble complete for rebuilding. Recommend parts to be replaced or repaired. Make machine parts complete from raw stock or remachine used part using lathe, milling machine, shaper, grinder, drill press, clutches, linkages, etc. Lap and file parts, mesh gears, press and shrink bushings, etc. checking dimensions, fits, bores, surfaces, meshing of gears, etc, using precision measuring tools such as: indicators, micrometers, venires, depth and height gages, etc., as required and reassemble equipment complete. Operate machine, facility or equipment for final adjustment and machine raw material to check taper and run out as required. Perform incidental removal and reassembly of other components (electrical or pipe) as may be necessary to disassemble and reassemble the equipment.
Welding:
For shop work, work from prints, sketches, or verbal instructions to lay out and position work piece(s) using suitable supports and holding devises. Use preheat equipment as required. Adjust amperage, fasten leads and insert electrodes in holder. Strike arc and deposit filter metal, as needed to product a quality weld. Work in cramped and difficult positions, including on ladders, from platforms, underneath machines, mixers, etc. Weld pipe and work on such things as pressure vessels, boilers, mixers, etc. Fill craters using spray weld equipment as required or other means. Gauge as required. Clean welds using wire brushes, chipping hammers, grinding equipment etc. Inspect welds carefully for trapped slag and other defects, repairing as required. Work alone or with others on routine tasks involving such things as parts removal, breakdown of equipment etc. Perform incidental removal and reassemble of other components (electrical, mechanical or pipe) as may be necessary to complete the welding operation.
Perform operations such as: all position manual arc welding, gas and spray welding, cutting and burning, brazing, soldering on a variety of materials. Defective work such as pipe welds defects may not be readily apparent.
