Position Summary: (Describes the overall purpose of this position)
Reports to the Pharmacy Director. Assists clinical pharmacists in all operations related to patient clinic visits, coordination of medication delivery, and scheduling/rescheduling of patient appointments. Under the supervision of a pharmacist, will assist in the processing, sale, and delivery of prescription medications, maintenance of patient pharmacy records, and drug inventory and supply, including ordering and receiving.
Essential duties and responsibilities (The following description is a general representation of the key duties and responsibilities of this position)
- Assist clinical pharmacists with submitting medication prior authorizations.
- Assist clinical pharmacists with pill box appointments. i.e. coordination of medications for appointments.
- Triage and manage referral queue of patient questions or appointment requests for clinical pharmacists.
- Assist with continuity of care with external providers.
- Work cooperatively with clinic and pharmacy staff.
- Handle frequent interruptions and adapt to changes in workload and work schedule. Is responsive to patient needs.
- Set priorities and solve problems.
- Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
- Assist in meeting the pharmaceutical care needs of the patient populations served by the organization.
- Procures and distributes medication orders per patient, pharmacist, provider request, or prearranged work assignment with a 95% accuracy rate according to established policies, procedures, and protocols.
- Perform data entry, process insurance claims, and fill prescriptions accurately and in a timely and efficient manner.
- Accurately count, pour, measure, package, and label medications when filling prescriptions.
- Accurately and efficiently enters patient information to maintain patient records.
- Complete sales of prescriptions maintaining confidentiality and HIPAA compliance.
- Maintain adequate stock of medications and supplies according to established policies and procedures.
- Assist in ordering, receiving, unpacking, and storing medications and supplies in appropriate locations.
- Rotate stock to ensure use before expiration date.
- Identify and return any outdated or unusable medications.
- Restock medications accurately within specified time periods.
- Contribute to the effective operation of the department.
- Enters prescription information into pharmacy computer system accurately.
- Completes prescription sales transactions.
- Organizes and prioritizes work assignments.
- Keeps pharmacy areas clean, neat, and well-organized; keeps pharmacy. equipment clean and reports any malfunctions to direct supervisor.
- Maintains patient, prescription, and other required documentation accurately and documents in appropriate locations.
- Answers the telephone, identifying self and department and answer patient request and directs calls to appropriate personnel.
