Hybrid Role: This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to Milford Proving Grounds three times per week, at minimum (or other frequency dictated by the business).
The Role
General Motors Emissions and Aftertreatment Systems Team within the Engine & Transmissions Controls Organization is currently seeking a Closed Loop Fuel and Diagnostics Calibration Technical Specialist to join the team. This group’s mission is to act as a technical PMT, responsible for delivering worldclass software and calibration solutions to robustly achieve emission, fuel economy and drivability targets.
Key Responsibilities
The Closed Loop Fuel and Diagnostics Calibration Tech Specialist plays a vital role in projects, leveraging his or her expertise and cross functional partners to provide the roadmap and building blocks for calibration execution. Main responsibilities include:
Subject Matter Expert in Closed Loop Fuel and Diagnostics calibration area – understand the physics behind the emissions control system and the implemented control methodology
Lead the Calibration TRB for their domain
Set Direction for Best Practices and Procedures
Provide Technical Mentoring (for both control system functionality and calibration strategy) to individuals in and out of the direct group, including global partners
Assist in program issue resolution
Lead technical discussions with Government Regulatory agencies
Support and Develop Calibration Standard Work
Support development of initial Calibration Procedure as a Scrum team member for the given area, including procedures for joint venture partners.
Lead the refinement of the Calibration Procedure.
Support the Scrum teams during job function assignment, master cal default value assignments, calibration tool development, diagnostic matrix or typing sheet development
Support the development of Physics based system requirements
Provide calibration input to the Agile Release Train or Advanced requirements development team during initial control system design
Provide feedback from the Calibration TRB on missing use cases, noise factors, limitations, assumptions to improve control system performance and capability
Additional Job Description
Minimum Required Skills and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical and/or Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Chemical Engineering
5+ years of experience in emission control system calibration
DFSS Black Belt Certification Required
Strong background in propulsion system calibration, including tools (Matlab/Simulink, Inca, ETAS, …)
Capability of reading and interpreting engine controls software. (Simulink and C-code)
Ability to travel domestically and internationally
Ability to legally drive a vehicle in North America, meeting GM’s Safe Driving rules and regulations
High level of oral and written communication skills
Demonstrated technical and professional skills in job-related areas
High level of interpersonal styles and communication methods to work effectively with cross-functional partners to meet mutual goals
High level of analytical problem solving ability, including independent judgment and decision making skills
Ability to prioritize work with only limited direction from manager
Lead discussions, action plans and solutions to drive issues to closure at the organizational level
Preferred Skills and Experience
Master’s or PhD degree in Mechanical, Chemical or Systems Engineering
Strong background in Controls knowledge of assigned area
Knowledge and understanding of the Agile development process
Demonstrated project leadership with enterprise or industry influence
Diverse portfolio of emissions and certification programs (minimum 3 different applications)
