Job Description:

The Nebraska State Patrol is seeking a dynamic team member to serve as the Information Security Officer (ISO) responsible for information security matters associated to the FBI's Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) Division. In this position, you will be involved with supporting a mission-critical system that provides law enforcement with vital, real-time information.
You will have the unique responsibility of safeguarding criminal justice information (CJI) throughout its lifecycle. You will collaborate with partner law enforcement agencies and organizations to assess their compliance with CJIS Security Policy, provide expert guidance on implementing security controls, best practices, and serve as a trusted resource to ensure CJI remains secure and protected.

Job Duties:

• Collaborate with the FBI and law enforcement agencies on CJIS Security Policy topics and incident reporting.

• Conduct on-site assessments and monitor the CJIS Security compliance of partner agencies, identifying areas for improvement and supporting their security efforts.

• Oversee the protection of CJI throughout its lifecycle, ensuring all data is secure and compliant with applicable standards.

• Provide guidance and education to partner agencies on CJIS Security Policy compliance, acting as a subject matter expert.

• Implement, monitor, and maintain security controls, ensuring adherence to cybersecurity best practices.

• Perform system administration tasks, including coordinating network management, servers, and security configurations.

• Troubleshoot and resolve a wide range of IT issues, including cybersecurity, networking, and general technical problems.

•  Stay up to date with the latest trends in information security, law enforcement technology, and networking.

• Consult on policies, procedures, and training programs to enhance security awareness within the agency and partner agencies.

• Troubleshoot and resolve a wide range of IT issues, including cybersecurity, networking, and general technical problems on a 24/7 basis.

Requirements/ Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications Associate degree in computer science and three years of related technical and business experience. Two years of related technical and business experience may substitute for the required education on a year-for-year basis. OR Post high school coursework in computer science and four years of related technical and business experience.

Preferred Qualifications: The ideal candidate will have experience in auditing organizations for compliance with IT security policies, including but not limited to CJIS, HIPAA, or other federal, state, or industry-specific standards.  The applicant will have a strong background in cybersecurity best practices, implementing security controls, and ensuring the secure operation of both on-premises and cloud-based environments.  Familiarity with compliance frameworks such as NIST, ISO, or similar with the ability to assess vulnerabilities, monitor security events, and provide technical support and troubleshooting a variety of systems on a 24/7 basis.  An understanding of system administration, network management, and information security principles is essential for success in this role.  This role must possess the skills to act as an educational resource to both internal and external parties on CJIS security policy, providing training and guidance to staff and stakeholders to ensure thorough understanding and compliance.  This candidate will possess strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and effective communication skills to assess and maintain compliance with relevant security policies.
