Job Duties
The Physician will demonstrate strong diagnostic and medical management skills, effective clinical documentation, and clear written and verbal communication. The position requires the ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary treatment team to deliver comprehensive care to geriatric patients with complex medical and behavioral health needs. Working knowledge of applicable federal and Virginia statutes related to mental health and geriatric care, as well as familiarity with DBHDS policies, regulations, patient rights, and treatment procedures, is expected.
The Physician will consult and coordinate with onsite and external medical and mental health providers, and communicate as appropriate with patients’ families and legal representatives. The role includes collaboration, consultation, and participation in a collaborative supervisory agreement with nurse practitioners in accordance with Virginia practice standards.
Minimum Qualifications

Graduation from an accredited or recognized medical school

Current, unrestricted license to practice medicine in the Commonwealth of Virginia

Completion of a residency in Internal Medicine or Family Medicine

Current DEA registration for controlled substances

Board-certified or board-eligible in Family Medicine or Internal Medicine
Additional Considerations
Prior Geriatric/Psychiatric Hospital experience.
