About the role

POSITION SUMMARY

Under the supervision of the Facility Supervisor, the Maintenance Foreman is responsible for scheduling preventative maintenance and repairs, ensuring the facilities are kept in optimal working condition, aligning with compliance and safety regulations. The Maintenance Foreman will also assist in inspecting facilities and equipment, ordering materials, and will act as a liaison between the maintenance crew and the Facility Management Organization (FMO).

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS


Education:

 

  1. High school education or equivalent required

  2. Associate degree or equivalent years of experience in lieu of education required

  3. Vocational Technical training in mechanical, electrical and pluming systems preferred. 

  4. Within one (1) year of hire /transfer, successfully completes The American Society of Healthcare Engineering (ASHE), NFPA-99, “Healthcare Facilities Code”, Certificate of Attendance.

  5. Annually achieves Continued Education Credits (CECs) until (ASHE), NFPA-101-2012, “Life Safety Code”, Certificate of Attendance is completed. Completion of this course will be monitored by the Facilities department.

  6. Continued education in regulatory code and compliance associated with hospital Life Safety. Completion of these annual continuing educational requirements will be monitored by the Facilities department. 

Experience:

  1. Five years full time experience with utilities and asset maintenance in large public setting required, healthcare experience preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  1. Ability to lead, motivate and manage a team effectively.

  2. Ability to address potential issues before they escalate.

  3. Strong ability to organize, inspire, schedule and oversee multiple task and priorities effectively.

  4. In depth knowledge of mechanical systems, electrical, plumbing, and general building maintenance and repair.

  5. Ability to address on-site challenges and make decisions as they arise.

  6. Clear and concise communication for both written reports and verbal interactions with staff and management.

  7. Through understanding of occupational hazards and precautions associated with maintenance work

  8. Ability to use Computerized Maintenance Management (CMMS) program and work with software applications (BAS, Office Suite, Outlook, etc.), for scheduling, tracking, and meticulous reporting.

  9. Ability to trouble shoot equipment problems and determine root cause of failures.

  10. Exhibits good cooperation with management, such as a positive response to applicable improvement issues found in performance reviews or elsewhere; a positive response to instructions or work assignments; a positive approach to improving skills, communications, and productivity

  11. Ability to work from ladders and scaffolding and to work overhead and in cramped quarters 

  12. Ability to communicate and collaborate with other persons within department and with employees from other departments 

  13. Ability to manage priorities and work efforts across shifts and with contractors

  14. Demonstrated initiative and commitment to continuous improvement objectives

  15. Ability to recognize patient and staff surroundings and work in a clean, quiet and respectful manner 

License/Certification/Registration:

  1. None required 

SUPERVISION RECEIVED

Receives direct supervision from the Facilities Supervisor and general supervision from the Manager Facilities Services.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  1. Assist Facilities Supervisor in leading and guiding the maintenance team of skilled and unskilled workers, assign tasks, and monitor work progress to ensure quality and efficiency.

    1. As directed by the Facilities Supervisor, coordinates and directs daily maintenance activities.

    2. Helps assess and allocate available resources - human and material.

    3. Provides leadership to other members of the facilities team.

    4. Assumes responsibility for facility ticket outcomes. 

    5. Assesses resource needs to plan for the oncoming shift and maintain continuity of services.

    6. Collaborates with the Facilities Manager/Supervisor to meet the organ
