About the role

The Nurse Manager is responsible for the management of nursing practice and operations on a designated unit/service. This includes, but is not limited to, the management of: clinical nursing practice, staff recruitment, retention, labor relations, supply chain and budget, staffing, employee performance evaluation, quality improvement, staff education, medical records, internal and external regulatory and survey requirements. The Nurse Manager collaborates with multiple professionals to support and coordinate the provision / management of patient care. He or she works closely with the Nursing Clinical Director, unit Dyad partner and staff in insuring that the Service/Unit maintains the highest standards of patient care and is responsive to the needs of the patient & family as well as the organization.

This position requires a Registered Professional Nurse with broad knowledge and skills, a clinical leader in the daily function of the unit, with oversight of quality patient care delivery, and who facilitates an environment of care that supports quality nursing practice and clinical excellence.

  • The Nurse Manager oversees the administrative and operational duties of a 23-bed Progressive Care, EMU, and Stepdown unit and the daily function and oversight of 45 FTE’s which include RNs, assistant staff and clerical staff.
  • Staff Management, recruitment, retention, labor relations, employee performance and evaluation, staff education, and staff schedules.
  • Performance/quality improvement projects, internal and external regulatory and survey requirements.
  • Maintenance of OMH/JCAHO Standards and implementation and evaluation of Quality Performance Initiatives.
  • Patient experience/satisfaction
  • Maintain supply chain and unit budget. 
  • Assesses staff competency and provides consistent meaningful feedback with more focused feedback as needed.
  • Leads nursing practice using the tenets of the Professional Practice Model of Relationship Centered Care and the Care Delivery Model of Modified Primary Nursing for the promotion of patient experience.
  • Chairs department committees and participates in hospital committees as assigned.
  • Prepares and reviews operational reports and schedules to ensure accuracy and efficiency.
  • Utilizing nursing processes to assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient care and implementation of new programs and processes, as needed.

 

  • Bachelor of Science with a major in nursing required; Master's Degree in Nursing or healthcare-related field or be enrolled in a program preferred
  • Licensed as a registered nurse with current registration in New York State
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Issuing Agency: AHA
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) Issuing Agency: AHA preferred
  • Must have 3 years of relevant previous clinical competence in the area of Critical Care, Telemetry, and Medsurg. Neuro and Epilepsy Monitoring (EMU) is preferred.
  • 3-5 years of Charge Nurse/Supervisory experience preferred.

 

Compensation Statement

The Mount Sinai Health System (MSHS) provides a salary range to comply with the New York City Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for this role is $115,494.00 - $173,241.00 ANNUALLY. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
