JOB REQUIREMENTS
Minimum Education
Must possess a current Kentucky Registered Nurse license.
BSN preferred.
Minimum Work Experience
Minimum of 2 years experience in clinical area of hire
Current BLS required
Current ACLS required for ICU and ED educators
Current PALS required for ED educator
Required Skills
Presentation skills
Knowledge of computer programs such as Word, Excel, Power Point, and Outlook
Ability to prioritize and manage multiple activities
Ability to work within timelines and meet deadlines
Strong understanding of organization’s goals and objectives
Sets a positive example

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Coordinates the orientation process for new employees or those to be cross-trained.
Develop, reviews, revises and constantly updates the unit orientation process and curriculum
Meets with preceptors and new employees periodically throughout the orientation period to
assess progress, assist in planning and to ensure that documentation of the orientation is
acceptable.
Maintains appropriate documentation of the orientation process including the orientation outline,
orientation checklists and periodic orientation assessments.
Collaborates with patient care managers to develop the annual unit competency plan.
Develops and coordinates annual unit specific competency assessments based on the unit
competency plan.
Utilizes a competency format for appropriate offerings throughout the year.
Assesses the learning needs of the staff utilizing various methodologies.
Plans in-services/educational offerings based on needs assessments, competency assessments
and implementation of new equipment or processes.
Coordinates the correspondence, preparation and registrations for course offerings
Structures content in such as manner as to enhance learner understanding and involvement in
order to foster a climate that facilitates optimal learning.
Utilizes adult learning principles when providing in-services/educational offerings for staff.
Utilizes a variety of instructional methods/techniques to manage individual and/or group
dynamics.
Demonstrates ability to utilize and troubleshoot audiovisual equipment and media sources.
Identifies the extent to which the learners achieved the offering objectives and makes changes
based on learner feedback.
Develops and implements “train the trainer” programs as needed.
Maintains appropriate documentation of unit-based educational offerings, in-services and other
training.
Fosters trust among employees, seeks employee involvement, and empowers employees
Demonstrates flexibility in work schedule by working nights or off shifts to ensure appropriate
orientation and onboarding of staff.
Demonstrates effective time management skills by completing essential job functions within the
timeframe.
Keeps Managers/Directors well informed about significant issues, events or concerns.
Keeps self well informed by attending staff meetings, in-services and reviewing assigned reading
(memos, minutes, policy updates, etc.) as required.
Keeps up to date with practice changes by attending seminars, teleconferences, webinars,
reading journals, etc.
Works closely with the nurse managers and the education department in the assessment of needs
and provision of learning opportunities that meet the ongoing educational needs of the staff.
Leads and/or participates on teams that impact nursing practice issues.
Assists with the development of policies, procedures and protocols related to nursing practice.
Performs other duties as assigned.
