Job Summary
Responsibilities
Carry an individual fundraising goal in the range of $3 to $10M and will be responsible for a team goal of $5M to $20M.
Carry a portfolio of 30 to 40 prospects who are Principal and/or Major or Gift Prospects (Principal Gift is $5M or greater).
Primarily, they and their team will manage prospects whose interest areas are in an assigned campaign area, however, they will also manage prospects whose funding interest is not yet fully defined or that touches on more than one priority area and in collaboration with fellow development officers.
They will have content expertise in their campaign area, and will have a broad understanding of the University of Chicago Medicine, University, and the fundraising priorities so that they can represent the University to donors with multiple or undetermined interests. Will have a deep appreciation for its mission, its science, and its contributions to society.
Will have the primary faculty relationships with the leaders in the given campaign areas. Additionally, will oversee and or nurture their team to build the capacity amongst the team to staff faculty.
Will have a staff of three or more full-time employees.
Provides, supports, and facilitates aspects of New Employee orientation and professional (skills) development. Uses organizational processes such as Early Employment Reviews, Performance Appraisals, and the Orientation Program as well as individualized conversations to partner, coach and counsel employees in their job performance.
Manages and maintains a portfolio of current and potential donors. Identifies and cultivates gift prospects and potential donors through events, visits, personalized correspondences, and phone calls.
Reviews and assesses staff.
Performs other related work as needed.

Preferred Qualifications
Education:
A Bachelor’s degree or higher.
An advanced graduate or professional degree in business, marketing, management, or higher education administration.
Experience:
A minimum of eight years of progressively responsible development experience or progressively responsible experience in a closely related field such as not-for-profit management, personal wealth management, pharmaceutical sales and/or marketing, corporate business development, marketing an intangible product or service.
Demonstrated management experience, particularly with successful leadership, supervision, and professional development of staff.
Demonstrated track record of organizing successful fundraising or marketing activities.
Proven success motivating others within a professional setting (e.g., staff, volunteers, and peers).
Experience managing program budgets.
Administrative responsibility in a large, hierarchical organization; preferably in higher education and/or medical center or medical research environment.
Experience managing a fundraising campaign at an academic medical center environment and/or a large hierarchical organization and/or private higher education institution.
Experience working in or education/training in, a medical field and an interest and knowledge base in health care economics, medical research, and health care policy.
