General Statement of Duties

 

The Staff Development RN assures that nursing personnel are fully prepared to deliver exceptional, compassionate care to chronically ill and aging residents across Heritage Pointe Communities. Success in this role is measured by improved resident outcomes, enhanced staff confidence and competence, and a culture of continuous learning. By designing and leading impactful education and training programs, the Staff Development RN drives the ongoing growth of nursing knowledge, clinical skills, and resident-centered understanding. This role builds strong partnerships with internal departments, medical professionals, consultants, government agencies, advocacy groups, and education institutions to create sustainable staff development initiatives that elevate care standards and strengthen the organization’s reputation for excellence in senior living.

 

Essential Job Outcomes

 

  • Staff education and compliance are strengthened through effective implementation of Relias, ongoing maintenance of development courses, and use of reporting tolls to verify timely completion and adherence to training requirements.
  • All staff and contracted team members remain compliant with regulatory training requirements, ensuring safe, high-quality resident care.
  • Nurse Aide students graduate fully prepared and confident in their roles, supported by strong clinical instruction and program direction.
  • Student scheduling, orientation, clinical hours, and state testing processes run smoothy, resulting in timely program completion and high pass rates.
  • Nursing and caregiving teams demonstrate competence in CNA, QMA, and nursing skills specific to Heritage Pointe of Fort Wayne.
  • Nurses and QMAs improve their clinical knowledge through monthly led in-services, contributing to safer nursing practices.
  • All required licenses and certifications for nursing staff are renewed on time, preventing lapses in credentials and ensuring uninterrupted quality of care.
  • Nursing staff remain proficient in Mantoux testing, CPR, IV Therapy, and phlebotomy, improving resident outcomes and emergency readiness.
  • Help with oversight of infection prevention and control practice across the communities, reducing the risk of outbreaks.
  • Emergency preparedness measures are well understood and executed by staff, strengthening resident and employee safety during crises.
  • Ongoing professional development in Nurse Aide instruction, fall prevention, IV certification, Mantoux, and CPR keeps staff education aligned with best practices.
  • Staff consistently adhere to OSHA mandates and workplace safety protocols, minimizing accidents and injuries.
  • Training and evaluation in fire, disaster, and emergency procedures ensure staff respond quickly and effectively in real situations.
  • Staff development efforts are informed by open communication with medical staff, nursing staff, and department heads, directly addressing areas of concern and elevating care standards.
  • All residents, colleagues, visitors, and external partners experience respectful, professional, and courteous interactions, reinforcing Heritage Pointe’s reputation for compassionate senior care.

 

Job Qualifications

 

  1. Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in state of Indiana, required.
  2. Compact Registered Nurse (RN) license for Indiana and Ohio, preferred.
  3. Certified to serve as Nurse Aide Program Director and Clinical Instructor, or eligible to obtain certification.
  4. Current CPR instructor certification or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire.
  5. Certification in Mantoux testing, IV therapy, and phlebotomy instruction, or willingness to obtain.
  6. Previous experience in staff development, clinical education, or nursing leadership in a senior living or long-term care setting strongly preferred.
  7. Demonstrated ability to implement, manage, and monitor learning management systems (e.g., Relias).
  8. Background in infection prevention and control practices, preferred.
  9. Experience coordinating regulatory training, in-services, and compliance-related education.
