Under the supervision of the program director the driver will be responsible for providing transportation for seniors 60 and over who are authorized for transportation to and from their homes, to either the designated senior center or social adult day services program or from their home to and from approved appointments as authorized by the supervisor and finally as planned to group outings provided by the program site. All agency drivers maybe requested to drive and deliver home delivered meals or congregate catered meals as required.

 

Transportation:

Pick up clients from approved worksheet and transport to and from the senior center
Maintain a log of the client's names who utilized transportation on a daily basis including the number of trips they took
Maintain the contribution box in the vehicle allowing for an anonymous contribution towards the suggested rate per trip
Report any incidents with clients and any change in their status to the supervisor
Provide transportation for individuals clients authorized by the supervisor to and from client appointments
Provide transportation for group shopping trips or outings as planned by program supervisors
Provide transportation to clients only as authorized by the supervisor
When necessary pick up/ drop off interoffice mail
Drive safely at all times
Report all incidents and accidents to immediate supervisor
Be courteous to riders
Other duties as required by the program Director or Director of Programming, Senior Services

 

Vehicle Maintenance:

Keep vehicle clean and in good operating condition
Inspect vehicle daily and report any operational or structural defects immediately
Oversee the maintenance, repairs and cleaning of vehicle (gas, oil, changing of tires)
Keep daily gasoline and mileage records
Keep vehicle report log recording all maintenance and repairs
Pick up and return vehicle to garage or to parking place daily

 

If Filling in for Meal Delivery:

Assist in packing of home-delivered meals
Pick up deliverer and meals and drive to designated client destination, required where parking is available to assist in delivering meals to homebound participants
Report, any difficulty with meals delivery or change in client's status, i.e. (vacation, clinic, appointments, hospitalization, etc.)
Maintain accurate daily log of meals delivered and contributions collected
Assist in scheduling meal delivery to minimize time and distance between delivery points
Pick up and deliver congregate meals to other program sites if needed.
Physical Requirements: Driving, bending, sitting, stooping, standing, and lifting. Ability to carry or move moderate-sized objects (50-60 lbs.).

 

COMPETENCIES

Must possess A valid New York State Driver’ License-CDL
Experience with various types of vehicles, including a bus for 16 passengers with the following Dimensions: Length: 241.1 in or 261.1 in, Height: 80.1 in or 80.4 in and Width: 79.4 in or 94.9 in
Proficiency in using GPS, maps, and planning efficient routes
Understanding of safety protocols, vehicle maintenance, and accident prevention
Ability to read, write, and speak English/Spanish preferred
Ability to perform basic math
Must be able to work independently
Ability to walk distances and climb stairs. Some knowledge of the area and/or ability to read maps and follow directions
Some knowledge of and a genuine concern for the physical, mental and emotional needs of older persons
Ability to interact professionally with members and clients ensuring a positive experience and ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with other staff, volunteers, and participants
Demonstrating reliability in adhering to schedules and deadlines

Ability to understand the concepts of institutional and structural racism/bias; ability to understand their impact on underserved and underrepresented communities

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

 High School diploma or GED required
 Minimum of one (1) year related driving experience required
 Experience working with the older adult population preferred
