In 1998, FirstLine Schools started the first charter school in New Orleans.  FirstLine now operates four (Pre-K) K-8th grade schools.  Our mission is to create and inspire great open admissions public schools in New Orleans.

Job Summary

The Assistant Principal of Culture (Central Office, Floating) at FirstLine Schools plays a crucial role in shaping and maintaining a positive, inclusive, and engaging school culture across multiple campuses. This individual will work closely with the Director of School Culture, principals, staff, students, and families to promote a safe and supportive environment that aligns with our values and enhances student learning and well-being. The position requires flexibility, as the AP of Culture will support various schools within the network based on specific needs.


Key Responsibilities

  • School Culture and Climate:
    • Develop and implement strategies to create a positive school culture that supports academic achievement and personal growth across multiple campuses.
    • Foster environments that are inclusive, respectful, and conducive to learning at each school.
    • Lead initiatives to improve student attendance, behavior, and engagement network-wide.
  • Student Support and Discipline:
    • Oversee the implementation of school-wide discipline policies and practices at different schools.
    • Support teachers in managing classroom behavior and building strong student relationships across the network.
    • Work with students, families, and staff to resolve conflicts and address behavioral issues through restorative practices at various locations.
  • Staff Development:
    • Provide training and professional development for staff on cultural competence, classroom management, and restorative practices across the network.
    • Collaborate with teachers to integrate social-emotional learning and cultural responsiveness into the curriculum at each school.
    • Mentor and support staff in their efforts to build a positive classroom and school culture throughout the network.
  • Family and Community Engagement:
    • Build strong relationships with students' families and the wider community to support student success across multiple campuses.
    • Organize and participate in events that promote family and community involvement in the schools.
    • Communicate regularly with families about school culture initiatives and student progress at different schools.
  • Data Analysis and Reporting:
    • Monitor and analyze data related to school culture, including attendance, behavior incidents, and student surveys across the network.
    • Use data to inform decision-making and continuously improve school culture initiatives.
    • Report on progress and outcomes to the school leadership team and stakeholders.



Requirements

 

Qualifications

  • Education and Experience:
    • Minimum of 3-5 years of teaching experience, with a proven track record of promoting positive school culture.
    • Previous leadership experience in an educational setting, ideally as a Dean of Students.
