Description
The therapist will evaluate, communication, swallowing, and cognitive disorders, and implement treatments and interventions as prescribed by a licensed physician. Evaluates and treats patients using the principles and practices of speech-language pathology and in accordance with the patient’s age, developmental level and diagnosis.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Evaluates patients and determines causal factors of speech and language impairments, as directed by physician.
2. Gathers data related to patient’s communication or swallowing disorder and selects appropriate evaluation.
3. Develops individualized treatment for patients diagnosed needing speech, language, or swallowing intervention.
4. Develops and maintains long-term and short-term treatment objectives for each patient.
5. Recommends modification or changes in the patient’s treatment program to the referring physician.
6. Prepares written/computerized documentation as required by the profession.
7. Communicates observations, facts and comments to nursing/interdisciplinary team.
8. Makes efficient use of direct and non-direct patient care time.
9. All other duties as appropriately assigned.

Requirements

Education and/or Experience
- Master’s degree in Speech Pathology from an accredited institution required
- Proficiency in/willingness to learn video fluoroscopic of the swallowing function
- Certification of Clinical Competence from ASHA, or eligibility for certification required. If not certified upon hire, must meet requirements for the prerequisite Clinical Fellowship Year “CFY” within the nine month period allowed.
- Current Illinois license or eligible for license; if not licensed upon hire, must meet requirements for the prerequisite “CFY” within the nine month time frame allowed.
- BLS/CPR certification required
