Tyto Athene is searching for a Senior Network Engineer (Cable) to support U.S. Southern Command on the SCITES II Contract in Doral, Florida.
The Senior Network Engineer (Cable) leads the planning, design and implementation of structured cabling infrastructure in support USSOUTHCOM’s command, control, and communication networks. This position ensures compliance with Department of Defense (DoD), BICSI, EIA/TIA, and other applicable standards. The Senior Cable Engineer provides technical leadership during installation projects, conducts site surveys, and oversees quality control of cable installations in secure environments.
Responsibilities:
- Design and engineer cable plant layouts including backbone and horizontal cabling systems
- Conduct site surveys and develop comprehensive cabling diagrams and material lists
- Lead installation, testing, and certification of copper (CAT5e/CAT6) and fiber optic cabling
- Manage teams of technicians to ensure timely and quality cable plant installation
- Implement cable management standards and ensure accurate documentation
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex cabling issues involving routing, connectivity, or signal loss
- Interface with network engineers, security teams, and project managers to align infrastructure designs with mission requirements
- Ensure all installations are compliant with applicable DoD, BICSI, and NEC standards
- Train and mentor junior cable technicians and engineers
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in electronics, information technology, or related field
- 10+ years of experience in cable infrastructure design and installation, with at least 2 years in a lead or senior capacity. Strong understanding of BICSI, TIA/EIA standards, and structured cabling best practices
- Experience with fiber optic cable splicing, termination, and testing
- Proficient in cable testing and certification using tools such as Fluke DSX, OTDR, and fiber scopes
- Ability to read and interpret technical diagrams and CAD drawings
- Capable of leading teams and managing cable-related projects independently
Desired:
- Master’s degree in related field
- BICSI Technician or Registered Communications Distribution Designer (RCDD) certification
- Familiarity with cable testers like Fluke or NetScout
- Exposure to DoD or federal IT environments
- Experience in DoD, IC, or SCIF environments with an understanding of TEMPEST considerations
- Project Management Professional
Clearance:
- TS/SCI clearance required
Certification:
- DoD 8570 Baseline & CE certifications are required for all positions and may vary slightly depending on the skillset required to perform the role
- CompTIA Security+ CE
- Network+
- OSHA 30 certification
