Position Overview
The Illinois Department of Corrections is looking for a candidate to serve as a Plumber located at Dixon Correctional Center. The ideal candidate will have knowledge of Illinois State Plumbing Code, excavation and repair of underground water and sewer infrastructure piping. This candidate must be self-motivated and able to work with others in the maintenance department while operating and repairing equipment, auger sewer machines, and pressure sewer cleaning jetters. Duties will include repair and maintenance of all hot and cold building piping, backflow preventers, high service and circulation pumps, fire hydrants, and the public water supply distribution system. Essential Functions
- Installs, repairs, and maintains pipe and other tubing throughout the institution.
- Melts and caulks lead joints.
- Instructs individuals in custody in plumbing tasks.
- Remains up to date and in compliance with Departmental Rules, Administrative Directives, Institutional Directives, Institutional policies, and procedures.
- Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
Minimum Qualifications
- Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of four (4) years of high school.
- Requires possession of a valid plumber’s license issued by the Illinois Department of Public Health.
- Requires the possession of a valid certificate as a Cross-Connection Control Device Inspector (CCCDI) or the acquisition of the certificate within the probationary period of employment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prefers two (2) years of experience maintaining/repairing commercial ice machines.
