Job Description
SUMMARY
Operates various heat treatment furnaces. Conducts vacuum and partial pressure heat treatment to alter metallurgical and mechanical properties of castings to achieve various levels of material strength, hardness and/or flexibility per customer requirements and specifications.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The following are some of the essential job functions of a Heat Treat Quality Tech at Chromalloy Castings. Other duties may be assigned.
- Track productivity and quality metrics
- Generate and present reports on performance and quality metrics
- Review customer specifications
- Be familiar with heat treatment industry standards
- Review and revise internal engineering specifications
- Conduct internal audits of the heat treatment department
- Conduct periodic quality reviews of daily checks performed by operators
- Prepare for external accreditation audits
Qualifications
The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities needed to perform the job functions successfully.
EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE
Required: High school diploma
Preferred:
1 year experience in heat treatment or a similar industry or work environment.
Associate degree or higher
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to communicate in English to read and interpret documents such as engineering specifications, operating instructions, and industry requirements. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to communicate effectively in one-on-one and small group situations with engineers, supervision, and other employees of the organization.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to read and interpret or to quickly learn to read and interpret line graphs and to comprehend the relationship between temperature and vacuum using the Fahrenheit scale and microns.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out all given instruction. Ability to effectively solve common equipment or process related problems involving several variables in standardized situations.
ORGANIZATION
Ability to keep large amounts of data organized and easy to interpret. Ability to keep documents neatly filed.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Alternate between standing and sitting readily throughout the day
- Adequate vision to safely perform all job functions (near sight, far sight, good depth perception, etc.)
WORK ENVIRONMENT
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to elevated temperatures, machinery noise, and dirt/dust. The employee is at times exposed to fumes or airborne particles. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate with occasional exposure to loud noise.
