About the role
This position completes conventional underwriting reviews in accordance with agency, investor and appraisal guidelines in a timely manner insuring compliance, quality and meeting closing schedules. This position will also counsel production and processing staff on current and proposed loan submissions, providing high level of customer service.
Primary Duties:
- Underwrite conventional loans in accordance with all agency and investor guidelines and standards.
- Respond to all agency, investor and internal audits to defend and support decisions for current and aged loan files.
- Work with Bell production staff to explain agency/investor guidelines when discussing or reviewing appraisals, credit submissions and scenario questions.
- Complete comprehensive review of entire loan package, from credit through appraisal through required documentation, to issue final underwriting decision.
- Complete all underwriting reviews in a timely manner to meet proposed closing schedules and turn-time expectations.
- Remain informed of all mortgage insurance program guidelines and offerings.
- Keep informed and follow all corporate underwriting policies.
- Know by name and face as many customers and employees as possible, calling them by name as often as possible.
- Know and practice LOCBUTN, our Golden Rules, and Bell Bank Customer Service Standards.
- Know, understand, and live the company values and bottom line.
- Conduct activities consistent with established Bell Bank policies, procedures and systems, the Bell Bank Employee Conduct policies, the Bank Secrecy Act and all applicable state and federal laws and regulations.
- All employees are responsible for information security, including compliance with policies and standards which protect sensitive information.
- Prompt and reliable attendance.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Job Skills Required:
- Three to five years of mortgage underwriting experience. (May allow less with internal training/experience.)
- Proficient knowledge of industry standard computer programs.
- Thorough understanding of all agency and investor underwriting policies.
- Overall understanding of economic and real estate markets from the locations where company originates loans to properly evaluate credit and collateral loan package.
- Ability to thoroughly review all conventional loan submissions and to independently make prudent lending decisions based on program guidelines.
- Ability to review residential collateral (including condos) per agency and investor policies.
- Ability to work efficiently and effectively under deadlines and stress while maintaining a professional and mature profile.
- Ability to work well with people with diverse personalities.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines simultaneously.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skill to provide exceptional customer service.
