Utilize specialized software tools such as SEL AcSELerator Quickset, GE Enervista, Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories (SEL) software suite, and vendor-specific software to create, modify, and manage relay setpoint files. Perform detailed system analysis and coordination studies using software such as ETAP, ASPEN OneLiner, CAPE, etc. to evaluate fault currents, protective device requirements, and coordination between relays. Develop any desired combination of control and relaying standards, including calculation sheets, downloadable setpoint files, logic diagrams, relay panel frameworks/arrangements, and front panel labels according to the client’s preferences. Possess extensive experience with protection applications, including line protection (differential, POTT, PUTT, DCB, DCUB, and step-distance), transformer protection (differential and overcurrent), bus protection (high impedance, low impedance, and current summation differential schemes), capacitor bank protection, breaker control relaying, and feeder protection. Be familiar with commonly utilized communication protocols (DNP, SEL, MMS, Modbus, etc.) and knowledgeable about IEC 61850 (GOOSE, MMS, SV) and its implementation for configuring and integrating relays into substation automation systems. Apply engineering standards, including NEC, NESC, NEMA, IEEE, and ANSI to develop protection and control relay settings design. Be familiar with NERC-PRC standards PRC-019, PRC-023, PRC-024, PRC-025, PRC-026, PRC-027, and other commonly utilized industry standards, with the ability to create reports and documentation necessary to comply with industry regulations if required by the project scope. Generate protective setting calculations by utilizing Mathcad and Excel software. Perform substation design, which includes the design and development of drawing packages such as wiring diagrams, schematics, protection panels, one-line, and three-line diagrams. Incorporate the requirements of the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) contract, customer Requests for Proposals (RFPs), professional service agreements, or other contractual requirements ensuring the projects meet or exceed project goals. Conduct complex research and develop recommendations for equipment and/or material selection. Actively seek to understand client interests and drivers through normal client contact and interaction with project leadership. Ability to independently develop written communication and to facilitate coordination with team members and clients. Review project schedules and work with the project engineer to ensure projects remain on schedule.
