The Tissue Coordinator provides support to the institution’s molecular profiling initiative, including maintaining accurate records for tissue sample acquisition and shipping. You will obtain archived tumor biopsies, respond to queries from sponsors and contract labs and track various metrics around the entire process.
You will assist with process of obtaining fresh and archival tumor biopsies and sending/retrieving to/from study sponsor or contract lab.
You will schedule research tissue biopsies and communicate procedure information to patients and/or site staff as appropriate.
You will prepare study supplies/source documents necessary for obtaining fresh tissue prior to patient treatment
You will attend biopsy procedures and aid in collection of fresh tissue samples.
You will coordinate the delivery and receipt of fresh tissue samples with hospital pathology laboratories
You will maintain accurate records of tissue sample acquisition and shipping
You will notify courier of any sample shipments
You will make necessary arrangements via FedEx, UPS, if samples arrive late
You will assist with process of obtaining archived tumor biopsies and sending/retrieving to/from study sponsor or contract lab
You will ensure adequate supply of dry ice is available for shipments
You will package and ship biopsy samples according to shipping manuals
You will respond to queries generated from study sponsor or contract lab regarding patient and sample data
You will track metrics, including total number of requests, amount received from path labs, amount sent to testing lab, insufficient samples, average time to receive, amount of tissue received after testing, amount of tissue returned to labs and overall number of days for processing. Report metrics monthly to leadership
You may utilize the company vehicle for the transportation of specimens. You should be open to utilizing personal vehicle, if necessary (compensation provided).
You should have for this position:
A High School Diploma, preferably a Bachelor’s Degree
Knowledge of OSHA requirements for safe handling of blood and body fluids
Maintain IATA certification
At least one year of experience, preferably in healthcare
