About the team:

The Trading Platform team, within the Brokerage organization, allows customers to invest in whatever they want (equity, option, crypto), whenever they want (extended hours), and however they want (fracs) at the best execution while ensuring market integrity.

Our team owns the order routing service for Robinhood for all instrument types (equities, options, and crypto), as well as the financial data services that power much of Robinhood, including Order routing, Order Execution management System, Market Access Controls and Smart Order Routing engine. We’re a fast-moving team that is the engine for innovation for the company. Our team was responsible for extending trading hours and brought 24 hour trading to the masses. We are the team that builds future forward facing trading capabilities that enable product teams to build innovative products on top of.

As a Senior Software Engineer, you’ll be building and owning the trade routing service that powers our brokerage systems. You will gain a unique look into how the trade executions systems at Robinhood work on the inside and strengthen your financial-domain knowledge.

We are seeking engineers who strive for a high standard of engineering quality while solving unique scalability challenges.

What you’ll do day-to-day:

• Design large-scale trading systems, considering risk and long-term maintainability.
• Lead the creation, testing, and release of product-facing platform features with a focus on correctness, low latency, and scalability. These features may involve trade execution, venue and exchange integration, and distributed systems.
• Proactively identify and drive optimizations and improvements to the trading platform.
• Work closely with trade execution teams on a day to day basis and build improvements that enhance our systems.
• Ship new features and trading platform capabilities that bring new trading features to our power customers. 
• Work closely with the data science team to enhance our routing decisions enhancing execution quality of trade for our end customers.
• Collaborate with our frontend team to build new GRPC APIs that expose new order types, assets and routing algorithms for our customers.

About You:

• 7+ years of software engineering experience. 
• Experience with FIX protocol in a production environment with expertise regarding FIX vendor practices and configuration standards is preferred
• Familiarity with Equities, Options, Crypto & Futures order lifecycles in relation to FIX.
• Strong background in distributed systems, with prior work on highly scalable, available, and low-latency services.
• Understanding of domestic and international securities market structure
• Experience working on a trade routing system or experience in trade execution. 
• Proficient in Root Cause Analysis (RCA) skills.
• Experience planning and leading large projects with long-term impact on a single system or team.
• Strong technical grasp and excellent judgment on task prioritizations.
• Able to tackle complex engineering problems that deliver results.
• Proven history of creating and implementing new processes and tools to improve engineering efficiency.
• Solid understanding of relational databases and transactions.
• Familiar with writing highly concurrent systems.
• Good intuition for GRPC API design.

Bonus Points:

• Intimate familiarity of Go, Kafka, Kubernetes
• Proven experience building large scale systems
• Experience working on Crypto trade execution systems
• Passion for or expertise in algorithmic trading is a bonus
• SIE or Series 7 certification is a plus
