About the role
Our mission at Asimov is to advance humanity's ability to design living systems, enabling biotechnologies with outsized benefit to society. We're developing a mammalian synthetic biology platform––from cells to software––to enable the design and manufacture of next-generation therapeutics.
As a Research Associate or Senior Research Associate, Synthetic Biology, you’ll work with synthetic biologists using the latest molecular biology and automation techniques to push the boundaries of biotherapeutic cell line development. This role is for a technical expert who will design and build new viral production systems from scratch, discover new mechanisms for improving CHO-based biologics production, streamline our workflows and systems, and coordinate multiple project efforts. This is a unique opportunity to work at a nimble, forward-thinking synthetic biology startup and help build the future of biological engineering.

About the role:
- You’ll work with a scientist to accelerate existing experimental pipelines with techniques ranging from DNA assembly, transfection, and cell line characterization, to ddPCR and next generation sequencing.
- This role involves a lot of cross-team collaboration. You’ll work with Asimov’s Synthetic Biology, DNA and Strain Construction, and Cell Line Development teams.
- You’ll independently create, characterize, and onboard new genetic parts for applications including gene induction and control, gene editing, and viral packaging.
- You’ll perform mammalian cell line development including stable cell line generation, single cell cloning, clone characterization, and cell banking using state-of-the-art equipment.
- We have a hybrid team structure with our Synthetic Biology team working from our lab and office in Boston’s Fenway neighborhood.
About you:
- You value teamwork and are motivated to contribute to the team’s goals. Working as part of a highly integrated research team is exciting to you.
- You’re a creative problem solver and get excited about the opportunity to drive the creation of industry-disruptive technology.
- You have experience working with plasmids and culturing cells including E. coli, yeast, or mammalian cells.
- Being detail-oriented isn’t just a sound bite for you, it’s part of your DNA. Keeping track of a bunch of moving parts is easy for you because you’re highly organized. It’s not your first time following a standardized workflow or pipeline.
- You have a bachelor’s or master’s degree in Biological Engineering, Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, Chemical Engineering or a related field, or equivalent laboratory experience.
- Don’t let this stop you from applying, but it’s a plus if you are familiar with flow cytometry, lentivirus or AAV, CHO-based biologics production, synthetic biology, or computation analysis and programming.
