The Role

The Python Software engineers working in our internal tools team are responsible for creating utilities that leverage our existing services and data stores to help our threat analysts, researchers, and engineers become more effective.

As a senior Python Engineer, you’ll be comfortable serving as a subject matter expert, bringing best practices for designing, developing, testing, and maintaining performant and reliable Python services and tools. You’ll take ownership of key components and help raise the overall engineering bar within the team.

This role offers the opportunity to play a key part in getting information from APIs and data stores into the hands of people who can act on it. With your help, we can continue to advance our protection mechanisms and stay ahead of an ever-changing threat landscape.

Looking ahead, part of the team’s charter is to explore and build agentic and AI-assisted tooling to help analysts automate and augment parts of their investigative workflows. While prior experience in this area is not required, curiosity and interest in applying these approaches to real-world problems will be a strong differentiator.

Your Day-to-Day

As a Sr. Python Engineer, you will work closely with internal users, including other Developers, Threat Engineers, and Data Scientists, to understand their needs for data, automation, and utilities that help them do their jobs more effectively.

This is a hands-on role working with a wide variety of internal stakeholders. One day, you may be meeting with a Threat Analyst to understand a new investigative workflow. The next, you may be designing, implementing, and releasing new code to expose data to analysts, or refactoring existing systems to improve stability, scalability, or maintainability.

You will be trusted to operate with a high degree of autonomy, balancing short-term delivery with longer-term technical improvements, and to help shape both solutions and standards rather than simply implementing predefined designs.

What You Bring to the Team

Core requirements:

  • A willingness to dive into a complex problem domain, assess existing systems and codebases, and recommend and implement practical, maintainable solutions

  • The ability to design and build reliable tools and data pipelines that programmatically transform raw data into usable insights

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree (or equivalent) in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field, plus relevant professional experience

  • Strong proficiency in Python 3

Experience with:

  • Testing, debugging, and operating Python applications in modern Linux environments

  • Developing back-end components and services

  • Taking ownership of existing codebases and extending or modernising them

  • Writing clear technical documentation, including architecture diagrams and sequence diagrams

  • Working in a collaborative engineering environment, including peer design reviews and pull requests

  • Hands-on experience with relational databases and SQL (e.g. MariaDB, MySQL)

Nice To Have

  • Experience working with public cloud platforms (e.g. AWS) is not required but highly beneficial

  • Interest or experience in building AI-assisted or agentic systems to support human workflows is a strong plus, but not a req
