Job Details:
Purpose:
To provide technical and organizational support for laboratory research. This person will: manage animal experiments, organize research activities in the lab (including ordering supplies), conduct biological sample analysis.
Responsibilities:
- Oversight of all laboratory activities, including oversight and training of undergraduate trainees and other lab personnel. Guidance and training of lab personnel in sample handling, safety protocols, laboratory assays, laboratory cleanliness and organization, and use of laboratory equipment.
- General management of laboratory resources, including ordering materials and maintaining inventory, talking with vendors and obtaining quotes, ensuring laboratory stocks are sufficient, maintenance of lab equipment and resources, and evaluating quality of materials received.
- Planning and organizing experiments, along with assisting in both human and animal research projects.
- Assisting with manuscript preparation, including verifying references and data, writing or verifying methods, and reviewing completed manuscripts.
- Oversight of laboratory compliance protocols, including ensuring that animal and human oversight protocols (IACUC and IRB, respectively) are up to date and complete.
- Communication with University oversight and other personnel, including Environmental Health and Safety, Animal Resources, Chemical Safety, Occupational Health Program, and others.
- Coordinates animal acquisition and care and provides oversight for all animal studies.
Required Qualifications:
BS degree in a biological science major (e.g. biology, cell biology, molecular biology, biochemistry, nutritional sciences, physiology)
Some work experience in a biological and biomedical research lab.
Preferred Qualifications:
1 year of prior full-time work experience in a biological or biomedical research lab
Salary Range:
$40,560+ depending on qualifications
Working Conditions:
Will work in a biological research laboratory with usual conditions. This includes:
- Work on a computer
- Working around chemicals
- Working with experimental animals
- Lifting light objects up to 20 lbs
