Summary:
This position will be responsible for developing and leading a new and enhanced Biomed Service Line including designing the service line structure, processes and workflows, and implementation of technology in alignment and collaboration with our technology and Shared Business Operations (SBO) model.
Key responsibilities include all duties related to the management of medical capital equipment and biomedical engineering services throughout the company, oversight of the corporate equipment purchasing functions, and staff supervision. This leader will be responsible for life cycle planning, inventory accuracy and maintaining the medical equipment portfolio. Special consideration will be given to individuals with experience building a robust biomed program from the ground up. Additional responsibilities will include overseeing reviews of medical capital expenditure requisitions (CERs) submitted by facilities, making recommendations regarding equipment and vendor selection, identifying refurbished options when appropriate, and intervening with vendors on behalf of CHS and the hospitals.
This position will manage a team providing medical equipment repair services as part of the medical capital lifecycle plan.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide corporate level support to hospital staff including CEOs, CFOs, CNOs, and Department Directors
- Develop highly reliable working relationships with CHS Clinical Operations and Clinical Services Lines
- Establish strong lines of communication and support with Regional leaders
- Consult frequently with Hospital and Regional office staff regarding specific problems and program analysis
- Maximize the use of contract vendors for medical equipment purchases
- Oversee the RFP and search process for all medical equipment
- Review and process medical equipment requests in a timely fashion and in compliance with CHS Accounting Policy
- Coordinate closely with project equipment planners to ensure that medical equipment specifications are met in a timely manner
- Continuously monitor vendor performance in terms of delivery, installation, warranty service, and training
- Document cost savings, activity levels, and end user satisfaction
- Work closely with HealthTrust Purchasing Group and Committees to determine best vendors to receive contracts and optimize the Group Purchasing Organization portfolio
- Work closely with The CHS Project Management Department regarding equipment needs in the projects undertaken by CHS
- Ensure service, repairs, and purchases are in compliance with corporate, state, federal, and regulatory are within the specified parameters
- Develop and maintain a real-time, comprehensive listing of all medical equipment and audit the asset list periodically and conduct entity level inventory on an annual basis
- Audit Biomed software to ensure preventative maintenance is performed according the manufacture recommendations
- Serve as leader for policies and procedures related to medical Capital Equipment and Bio-Medical Services
- Oversee asset tracking, medical capital equipment life cycle planning, inventory management and equipment disposal
- Develop an annual and long-term medical capital equipment plan for CHS and partner with Finance and Treasury to manage the plan
- Coordinate efforts with Strategic Sourcing and Supply Chain Master Data Management if equipment requests include any product supply and/or service consideration
- Review all Projects/Capital Equipment Requests for capital and/or Bio-Med assets and make appropriate recommendations. Coordinate needs to maximize bulk opportunities where possible
- Review rental expense on a quarterly basis and make purchase recommendations where appropriate
Qualifications:
- Required Education: Bachelor’s degree in Biomedical or Mechanical Engineering or Biological Sciences
- Required Experience: 7+ years of direct biomedical engineering experience
- Preferred Experience: 10+ years of progressive strategic leadership experience from small to large organizations in biomedical engineering management and medical equipment sourcing and management.
