Job Description Summary
Under general supervision, the Plumbing/Maintenance Technician II is responsible for installing, repairing and maintaining pipes, fixtures and other plumbing used for water distribution and a waste water disposal in residential, commercial and industrial buildings. This position will also perform preventative and repair maintenance relative to general painting, carpentry, electrical, and HVAC systems of the College, as well as other general maintenance duties as assigned.Job Description
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Note: The following duties are illustrative and not exhaustive. Responsibilities may evolve based on organizational needs, and similar or related tasks may be assigned as necessary. Management reserves the right to assign additional duties as required.
- Installs, repairs and maintains plumbing systems and fixtures in campus buildings. These piping systems may be used to transport water, waste, gases or hot liquids.
- Reads blueprints, drawings and specifications to determine the layout of plumbing systems, water supply networks and waste and drainage systems.
- Plans, installs and services plumbing systems, fixtures, piping equipment and controls. This may include installing supports and hangers for pipe, fixtures and equipment; assembly and installation of valves and fittings; installation, repair and maintenance of water treatment equipment, piping and controls; installation, repair and maintenance of underground sanitary and water piping systems; installation, repair and maintenance of sinks, tubs and toilets; installation, repair and maintenance of water heaters and conditioners; installation, repair and maintenance of plumbing fixtures, appliances and trim; and testing pipe systems and fixtures for leaks.
- Working in cooperation with other trades and laborers, ensures that all specifications, legislation and policies are met, and ensures efficient completion of any project. Provides adequate services to ensure that all water supply networks and waste and drainage systems are installed, repaired and maintained to meet all standards of building codes and safety.
- Ensures compliance with all building codes and installation requirements; and maintains relevant recordkeeping.
- Performs scheduled maintenance service on plumbing systems and fixtures.
- In support of other maintenance personnel, performs general building maintenance tasks as assigned including, but not limited to, general painting, carpentry, electrical, and HVAC preventative maintenance programs.
- Attends classes and seminars as directed to update skills.
- In addition, this position may be required to come into work on weekends, holidays and in emergency situations (i.e., subject to “on-call” responsibilities).
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

- Ability to review building plans and specification to determine the layout for plumbing and related materials.
- Ability to apply all relevant building codes and installation requirements to installations, repairs and maintenance of College facilities as necessary.
- General knowledge and skills in carpentry, painting, electrical, and HVAC trades.
- Ability to work effectively and follow detailed instructions.
- Ability to choose and use all trade appropriate tools.
- Ability to perform general building maintenance tasks.
- Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
- Must possess or have the ability to obtain a valid Florida driver’s license.
- Ability to work in a variety of weather conditions.
- Ability to work assigned, additional and on-call hours as required.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
This position requires the exertion of 100 pounds of force occasionally and up to 50 pounds of force frequently. Work requires considerable physical activity including walking, lifting, reaching, stooping, pulling, grasping, balancing, climbing, kneeling, standing, and crouching.
