Job Description:
Seasonal part-time position is responsible for conducting a 16-week (January 2024 through April 2024) roving creel on Lake Marian in Osceola County. Primary responsibilities will be interviewing anglers on the catch and harvest of freshwater fish species while on the water. Additional responsibilities will also collect fish carcasses from local fish camps for aging purposes, and to assist biologists with fish measurements, otolith preparation, and age determinations. Position will be expected to work some weekdays and most weekend days.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Must be able to work independently, effectively communicate with the public, and record handwritten data accurately and legibly on provided spreadsheets.
- Must possess a valid Florida Driver license and boater safety card.
- Must be able to safely operate vessels up to 18 feet LOA and up to 115 Horsepower.
Minimum Qualifications:
Two years of post high school experience in wildlife, fisheries, environmental, ecological or related agriculture or construction or An associate of science degree from an accredited college in the field of wildlife, fisheries, environmental, ecological or agriculture studies.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Proficiency in operating and trailering boats (< 24ft)
- Comfortable using maps and GPS to navigate in remote settings
- Ability to work independently and in teams
- Ability to obtain a valid Florida driver’s license and boating safety card.
- Ability to work in inclement conditions
- Be physically capable of lifting and using heavy (e.g., 50 lbs) field equipment
Preferred Experience:
Knowledgeable in handling of boats, and with common freshwater fish and fishing techniques in Florida.
This position requires the candidate to have a successful completion of a level 1 background check prior to hire date at no cost to the candidate.
