Job Description:  

This is general transportation infrastructure maintenance work involving construction, repair, and maintenance of vehicles, equipment, buildings, bridges, grounds, roadways and/or other applicable infrastructure. This Transportation Worker position is part of the Yard Crew at Fleet Services HQ. Work includes the use of hand power tools and related heavy equipment to perform assigned duties. These positions require long hours of work under adverse conditions. This position will need to obtain their Class A CDL along with a Haz-Mat endorsement to ensure the safe operation of the Department's specialized equipment such as the Under bridge Inspection Crane Truck and Waste Oil Truck. Work is performed under direct supervision.  

To be minimally qualified for this position candidates must meet the following experience criteria:

  • Must be 18 years of age, have a high school diploma or equivalent
  • Required to work at a higher class as necessary and in accordance with required licenses and/or certification

Licensing/Registration/Certification Requirements: 

  • State-paid Medical examination that includes: 
    • a drug test 
    • Department’s Respirator fit test 
  • Class C State of Maine license by first day of employment. 
  • Shall obtain and retain a valid Class B State of Maine license during the initial six-month probationary period.
  • Ability to become a certified snow fighter within 12 months. 
  • Ability to obtain flagger certification within a specified amount of time.
