White Oak Medical Center seeks to hire an experienced Birth Registrar for our Patient Financial Services Department who will embrace our mission to extend God’s care through the ministry of physical, mental, and spiritual healing.

As a Birth Registrar, you will:
• Serve as the point of contact for individuals seeking information regarding the filing / processing of birth certificate and social security card
• Obtain and verify required information from facility worksheet and/or Cerner electronic medical record (EMR) to process birth certificate
• Gather information used to complete the electronic birth certificate according to the guidelines of the Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene
• Update newborn name in the EMR
• Electronically submit birth certificates to the Division of Vital Records in the required 5-day reporting period
• Coordinate the Affidavit of Parentage completion, verifying signatures and proper ID
• Provide proof of birth letter when requested, verifying proper ID
• Send via Federal Express the original Acknowledgement of Paternity (AOP) to the Division of Vital Records Administration.
• Scans facility worksheet in patients' medical record
• Maintain a log of completed birth certificates for reference
• Provide the Vital Records Administration with a monthly count of facility live births
• Maintain the confidential nature of the information gathered during the birth registration process
• Demonstrate excellent customer service skills to both internal and external customers
• Communicate to management when issues arise

Qualifications include:
• Certified by the State of Maryland Division of Vital Records as Birth Registrar Specialist
• High school graduate or equivalent required
• Knowledge of medical terminology
• Minimum of two years’ experience in a medical records department, or medical office setting
• Strong customer service skills
• High attention to detail required
• Good organizational and time management skills
• Requires the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Ability to act in a professional manner to accurately advise, instruct and deal effectively and diplomatically with patients, clinicians, and others while handling sensitive information
• PC skills in a Windows environment are required; knowledge and utilization of desktop applications to include Word and Excel is helpful
• Bilingual preferred

Pay Range:

$18.31 - $24.90

If the salary range is listed as $0 or if the position is Per Diem (with a fixed rate), salary discussions will take place during the screening process.

Under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), this position is classified as:
