This is a full-time day shift position, working 6:30-3pm Monday-Friday. This position requires a City of Chicago, Department of Buildings, Stationary Engineers License.

Pay Range

$30.15 - $45.25

Position: Stationary Engineer II

Location: Trinity hospital; Chicago's South Side

Full Time; 1st Shift

~Hours: Monday-Friday, 6:30am-3pm

Major Responsibilities:

  • Works within clearly defined standard operating procedures.     

  • Operates all campus heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) equipment including boilers, steam absorption and centrifugal chillers, cooling towers, fans, pumps and systems in a manner that optimizes efficiency, safety, and occupant comfort per department policies and procedures with moderate level of guidance/assistance. 

  • Maintains accurate records and reports on all equipment startup, failures, problems, work in progress and completed work through logbooks and computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) with moderate level of guidance/assistance. 

  • Proficient level of skill to utilize BAS as a tool for both monitoring and controlling HVAC equipment. Responds to alarms in a timely and correct manner. Optimizes operation using trending reports as appropriate. 

  • Proficient level of skill to perform preventive maintenance on HVAC and other equipment as assigned per established procedures including inspection, cleaning, lubrication, adjustment, testing, flushing, minor repairs, rebuilding and replacing parts/components to ensure that systems remain within the established operating parameters.     

  • Proficient level of skill to troubleshoot issues with HVAC equipment determine the root cause in a timely manner.  Executes repairs or installations with minimal impact to the hospital and patient care. Appropriately requests assistance as warranted by the situation. 

  • Responds to building occupant complaints in a timely and professional manner and takes appropriate corrective action. Keeps requester appraised of the status of corrective action. 

  • Maintains current daily logs, preventive maintenance records and equipment repair files to comply with local, state and federal regulatory requirements as directed. 

  • Performs routine general maintenance including painting, plumbing, carpentry, equipment testing and repair, ventilation, lighting, electrical, groundskeeping and snow removal.  Performs repairs on a large variety of facility systems such as mechanical, electrical, building systems and other critical systems with moderate level of guidance/supervision.   

  • Provides timely and proper response to assigned service calls, work orders and preventative maintenance to maintain a safe and efficient environment.  Documents all tasks and work time on the CMMS.  

  • Reads blueprints and maintenance manuals to gain knowledge needed to complete assignments. 

Licensure, Registration, and/or Certification Required:

  • Stationary Engineer license from the municipality of work location or Power Engineer certification (1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th or 5th Class) from either the National Institute for the Uniform Licensing of Power Engineers (NIULPE) or the American Society of Power Engineers (ASOPE). Equivalent certifications from federal organizations such as the United States Navy will also be considered. 

  • Valid Driver's License

Education Required:

  • Advanced training beyond High School that includes the completion of technical training. 

Experience Required:

  • 2-4  Years of Stationary Engineering 

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:

  • Moderate knowledge of applicable codes/regulations pertaining to assigned equipment and operations.

  • Proficient computer skills (e.g., software relating to CMMS, building automation, and Microsoft Office).

  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

  • Must be able to sit, stand, walk, lift, squat, bend, crawl, reach above shoulders, and twist frequently throughout the workday.
