The Controllership team is responsible for accurately reporting the financial results of Clover Health and overall business activities. The team coordinates and directs all financial transactions in the accounting system, as well as, supports company-wide goals and initiatives relative to the financial needs of all departments. The accounting department assures that all transactions adhere to company policies and procedures, generally accepted accounting principles, and relevant authoritative guidance.

We are looking for a highly motivated and committed individual to join our accounting team as a Statutory Accounting Manager. The Statutory Accounting Manager will be responsible for analyzing financial information, preparing accurate and timely financial reports and statements, as well as, ensuring timely completion and evidencing of appropriate internal control procedures. This individual will be expected to exhibit the highest professional standards, ethical principles, and attention to detail while working on numerous routine and ad hoc accounting support functions. This individual will be expected to solve complex issues as well as communicate conclusions of those complexities to finance management in a clear, concise manner. This individual should have a high degree of interpersonal skill and will be expected to communicate across departments to reach comprehensive conclusions (where applicable).

As a Statutory Accounting Manager, you will:

  • Manage the Statutory Reporting function, including the preparation of NAIC Statutory Quarterly and Annual Statements, including all NAIC Supplemental Filings for filing with the Domiciliary Department of Insurance, the NAIC, and all other states in which the Clover is authorized and licensed.
  • Manage certain aspects of the month, quarter, and year-end close process to meet assigned statutory deadlines; Ensure that general ledger accounts are reconciled and analyzed monthly.
  • Review and analyze monthly financial reporting packets and annual financial statements for distribution to the executive leadership team.
  • Assist and support GAAP reporting for Consolidated (public) company.
  • Assist with Multiple components of the CMS filings (DIR, CAE, MLR, etc.) and CMS/Statutory audits.
  • Work closely with third parties related to reinsurance accounting and reporting.
  • Communicate with external auditors regarding audited financial statements and other accounting and reporting issues.
  • Prepare responses to inquiries from the regulatory authorities.
  • Actively provide mentoring and coaching to increase the technical expertise and improve team strength.
  • Special projects and other duties as assigned.
  • Be responsible for assisting treasury in RBC calculations and work through statutory considerations for strategic decisions.
  • Partner with the actuarial team to help analyze and document balance sheet and income statement activity and variance for statutory financial reporting.
  • Perform other special ad-hoc projects and analyzes as directed by management.

You should get in touch if:

  • You have a minimum of 7-10 years accounting experience that demonstrates knowledge and application of statutory accounting policies and practices, insurance experience preferred.
  • You have a minimum of 2 years healthcare plan experience, preferably Medicare Advantage.
  • You have experience working with Intacct or similar financial management software.
  • You have expert working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) including Google suite.
  • CPA certification required.
  • You have at minimum a bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or related field.
  • You have Big 4 public accounting experience, preferred.
