Requires two 7am starts and two evenings seeing patients until 7pm. Requires working 2-4 Saturdays a year.

OFFERING A $5000 SIGN-ON BONUS PAYABLE IN TWO INSTALLMENTS - 50% AFTER 90 DAYS - 50% AFTER ONE YEAR

Major Responsibilities:

  • Evaluation and Goal Setting
    • Brings new assessments to the clinic for consideration and implementation
    • Demonstrates advanced evaluation skills with complex patients, specific diagnosis or program area
    • Administers and interprets initial evaluations to determine the patient's status in the following areas of function: locomotion, strength, endurance, cardiopulmonary function, balance, coordination, joint mobility, flexibility, pain, job related tasks, wound status and functional mobility skills.
    •  Establishes short and long terms goals which are functional and measurable.
    • Selects appropriate evaluation procedures to assess the abilities and limitations of adult patients on the medical surgical units.
  • Provision of Patient Care
    • Executes appropriate treatment programs for adult patients on the medical surgical units at AIMMC based on physician referral, evaluation results, patient/family goals and interests, sound clinical judgment and other pertinent available information. Adjusts the treatment plan as indicated to meet the changing medical and functional needs of the patient.
    • Demonstrates advanced clinical skills in a specific program area, with more complex patients or with a specific diagnosis.
    •  Introduces new treatment ideas / modalities for consideration and implementation.
  • Patient and Family Education
    • Provides education to the patient and family, or significant others based on patient needs. Identifies and addresses learning readiness, preferences and learning barriers.
    • Introduces new patient education materials for implementation related to new program areas or diagnoses.
  • Discharge Planning
    • Consults with other team members to determine when the patient will be ready for discharge. Recognizes the need for termination of treatment and effectively plans discharge which may include establishing home treatment plans, arranging for equipment or devices, and/or arranging for continued services.
    • Participates in unit team conferences to assist with overall discharge planning from the hospital.
  • Documentation
    • Introduces new ideas to improve efficiency or effectiveness of documentation to the department for consideration and implementation.
    • Completes all written documentation according to departmental policy.
  • Daily Operations
    • Responsible for maintaining a productive schedule, with an average of 6.5 out of 8 hours per day scheduled for direct clinical care. Informs supervisor of openings and/or cancellations in their daily schedule.
    • Bills for all services rendered on the day delivered.
    • Actively participates in the continuous improvement of the quality of services and efficiency by participating in measuring critical functions and participating in teams to improve work processes.
    • Follows appropriate safety and infection control measures pertaining to patient care, equipment and the general working environment. Promptly reports any problems to their immediate supervisor.
    • Actively participates in departmental meetings, in-services and continuing education programs
    • Seeks out additional responsibilities including orienting new staff, assisting with scheduling, etc.
    • Participates in department or hospital committees as assigned
  • Student and Staff Development
    • Leads case discussions, journal presentations, and in-services within the department and to other AIMMC staff.
    • Supervises physical therapy students annually at the request of the supervisor after completing one year of clinical experience.
    • Participates in RIC and Advocate systemwide councils. Brings ideas from the council to the department for consideration and implementation.
    • Assists in developing clinical competency assessments and acts as a preceptor.
