Job Description

The focus of the Talent Manager is to enhance the agency’s performance by proactively managing our company’s most important assets—our people. The Talent Manager will act as a subject matter expert relative to human resource and talent development initiatives. It is the responsibility of the Talent Manager to insure that all appropriate resources are brought to bear in building a diverse and productive work environment.

***This is a Hybrid position based in our Chicago office at 35 W Wacker***

Primary Responsibilities: 

Employee Relations

  • First point of contact when an instance of misconduct or negative or concerning behavior occurs.
  • Troubleshoot ER instances with Managers re: team issues/dynamics and other miscellaneous agency issues as they arise
  • Advise and provide managers with effective tools to improve employee performance, take corrective action and, when necessary, handle separation.
  • Proactively promote and maintain an environment where the company’s values and high performance principles are demonstrated.

Talent Management/Casting

  • Support the agency’s commitment to diversity.
  • In partnership with leadership address structural issues, clarify reporting relationships, and provide input/help in implementing reorganization when necessary.
  • Develop thorough job descriptions/competencies in partnership with Dept and line managers
  • Identify internal candidates who may be able to rotate assignments for career pathing and development.
  • Brief the recruiting team on staffing needs, provide position “briefs,” discuss offers, and help with onboarding process.
  • Communicate w/ managers to understand job openings/needs
  • Partner with Dept leadership to conduct talent reviews and succession planning.
  • Determine high potential performers and build detention plans around these employees.

Performance Management

  • In Partnership with leadership, implement organizational performance assessment tools.
  • Consult with employees and managers regularly setting the expectation to discuss performance feedback on a regular basis.
  • Ensure formal performance assessments are conducted on a regular basis and that documentation is on file. Resolve employee problems or issues, by using judgment that is consistent with legal standards, practices, policies and procedures.

Training/Development

  • Diagnose training needs for individuals and encourage employees/managers to attend training sessions specific to their needs. Identify department specific training needs and leverage agency-wide training to the benefit of the department

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience in Business, Communications, Human Resources or related field.
  • 6+ year’s progressive experience in an agency or studio setting.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills including the ability to collaborate cross-functionally, build and manage relationships with key stakeholders, influence management and senior executives and ability to transfer knowledge to build capabilities in HR partners and others.
  • Ability to coach employees and direct reports.
  • Demonstrated strategic thinking, drive for results and decision quality.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage processes, while ensuring all deadlines are met.
  • Working knowledge of HR related laws and regulations
  • Knowledge of HR practices including staffing, training, organization design, HR metrics, performance management and compensation.
  • Self-starter with proactive, consultative approach to partner with agency leaders.
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
