Your Specific Responsibilities:

The OPS Government Operations Consultant II position is a professional position within a county-wide epidemiological response team. This position is responsible for respiratory outbreak and healthcare associated infection (HAI) control and prevention efforts and supports the guidance and protocols of Epidemiology program. Incumbent works as a team member of the Epidemiology program conducting routine epidemiologic functions comprising surveillance, data collection, data analysis, and community education, using basic epidemiologic methods and assistance with epidemiologic investigations.

The purpose of this position is to serve as an epidemiologist for Respiratory and HAI threats involving specific community settings, such as long-term care facilities (LTCFs), correctional facilities, shelters,  school, childcare, and youth programs, and for the surveillance and investigation of cases in those settings. Work efforts performed by the incumbent aid in monitoring the health status of the community, identifying trends or outbreaks of disease, and providing data and information about corrective actions to promote and protect public health.

  • The incumbent will work cooperatively with hospitals, LTCFs, private physicians, county health department nursing staff, childcare staff, and other appropriate community partners in providing guidance on Respiratory and HAI prevention, and in performing case and outbreak investigations under established guidelines and protocols.
  • Specific duties and responsibilities are performed and accomplished independently and are as follows:
  • Responsible for conducting case investigations and interviews, contact tracing, prompt implementation of appropriate control measures, coordinating shipment of laboratory specimens to the state public health laboratories, case documentation and timely reporting, research and public health surveillance, and field epidemiological investigations of disease clusters, and outbreaks of respiratory pathogens and other HAIs.
  • Conducts continuous public health surveillance including monitoring of Merlin task lists, disease reports, ESSENCE-FL, and other mechanisms for monitoring incidence of reportable diseases.
  • Prepares technical reports, summaries of investigations, and performs related work as required.
  • Perform medical record abstraction as part of disease surveillance and data quality initiatives.
  • Assists in planning and, preparing education materials for staff, medical personnel, and community at large on issues related infection prevention and disease control processes, management and reporting, and conducts training and/or educational outreach presentations to community partners as assigned.
  • Performs other duties including special surveillance projects as assigned
  • Use Project Firstline training, tools, and resources to effectively implement IPC education and training activities at healthcare facilities.
