Public Works currently has multiple vacancies for the position of Senior Street Inspector (6231) within our Operations Division.

We conduct a 24-hour, seven-day-a-week operation and some staff may be assigned a Swing Shift with core work hours between 12:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m.
 

Job Description

Under general supervision, as a Senior Street Inspector, you will perform inspections and supervise the work of Street Inspectors tasked with regulating the use, condition, and construction of streets, sidewalks, trench excavations, and other construction-related activities to ensure compliance with Federal, State, and Municipal codes, specifications, regulations, and permit conditions. You will conduct inspections and supervise staff tasked with enforcing municipal codes governing the commercial use and occupancy of the public right of way, including performing inspections involving regulation of sidewalk vendors, mobile food facilities, Shared Spaces, and other community-based elements of occupancy. 
You may also be tasked with inspecting building exteriors and lots that are visible from the public right of way that potentially constitute a public nuisance. In addition to leading field activities, you will provide supervision and assist with the completion of office activities and may perform inspections of increasingly complex projects and be assigned to special projects.

Important and Essential Duties:
Your duties as a Senior Street Inspector may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Perform, lead and supervise staff tasked with performing inspections of streets, sidewalks, trench excavations, and utility repair projects; inspect general conditions of defects on streets and sidewalks.
  • Inspect excavation sites, sewer projects and utility company work sites to ensure proper shoring practices, traffic control, and pedestrian accessibility and safety practices are followed.
  • Inspect permit use for obstructions such as news racks, flower stands, restaurant furniture, produce stands, building construction, or other obstructions to paths of travel, especially regarding compliance with the Americans with Disability Act and Title 24.
  • Inspect private and public property, identify violations, and enforce and issue Notices of Violation/Blights under applicable municipal codes and ordinances.
  • Inspect the placement of signs, flyers, or notices within the public right of way.
  • Inspect private elements of occupancy that encroach on the public right of way.
  • Read and interpret permits,
