General Maintenance Repair Technician, Kansas Wetlands Education Center (Great Bend, KS)Job Description
A Facilities Maintenance Technician oversees general repairs and other maintenance needs for university buildings, systems, utilities, equipment, and other property. Ensures a safe and functional environment that facilitates learning. Monitors assigned areas and performs maintenance, repairs, and inspections. This is a full-time, benefits eligible position with a Monday – Friday, 8:00 am - 4:30 pm work schedule. Work schedule will require the individual to shift work schedule to work occasional weekends to accommodate special events.
Location: The General Maintenance Repair Technician is stationed at the Kansas Wetlands Education Center (KWEC), which is located at Cheyenne Bottoms near Great Bend, KS.
Responsibilities:
Maintenance – 45%
- Responsible for setting up and tearing down events that will take place in the building. Will replace ballasts, bulbs, repair suspended ceiling tile, patch walls, paint, and fix problems with toilets/faucets, diagnose HVAC issues, able to do some preventive maintenance with equipment and furnishings with the building. Set up effective routines to constantly monitor/modify safety through the building and responsive compliance with safety and health code. Process and adhere to standard procedures. Upkeep of grounds adjacent to building, including removing snow, picking up trash, spraying weeds. Keep inventory of supplies in the work stations. Keep supervisors informed of operational needs and progress. Organizes and completes assignments as instructed by Supervisor.
Custodial Duties – 45%
- This position provides services to perform the necessary duties for the proper cleaning of the total area to meet the cleaning standards and expectations set by the department and those assigned by the Supervisor. Responsible for cleaning and sanitizing restrooms, offices, hallways, workrooms and all the rooms within the building. The procedure of emptying trash, vacuuming, dusting mopping, scrubbing, stripping, waxing buffing, extraction of carpets, burnishing and washing walls, windows. During inclement weather it will be the responsibility of the individual to follow the Supervisor’s direction to ensure the building entrances are safe and free of ice and snow.
Miscellaneous – 10%
- This position requires a positive, courteous, professional attitude to ensure a good working relationship with the Wetlands Center staff as well as visitors of this facility. Customer relations/service is a vital task of this position. Will be assisting other staff at times for examples hanging pictures, unloading trucks, opening doors, etc.
- This position may be requested by the Supervisor, department head, appointing authority/his designee, or the President’s Office to assume other tasks and responsibilities deemed necessary to facilitate a cooperative atmosphere within the Physical Plant and University community. This position is subject to working at times other than normal working hours
- Secure building at the end of shift making sure all doors and windows are locked, and lights and water are off. A complete walk about of the building will be mandatory at the end of the shift.
- Perform any other related duties as required or assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
- This position requires a High School Diploma or equivalent.
- One to three years of experience working in a maintenance capacity.
- Valid state driver's license is required
Preferred Qualifications:
- A degree from a trade school is preferred.
Physical Activities: Job duties require physical abilities including manual dexterity and trunk strength. Must be able to use repetitive wrist, hand and finger movements to type and move objects regularly. Must be able to stand and walk frequently. Must be able to reach and grasp to complete tasks and operate equipment. Requires the ability to stoop, bend, and crawl to reach certain equipment and property. Must be able to climb and work from a step ladder. Must have clarity of vision and precise hand-eye coordination to inspect, diagnose, and repair University property. Must regularly be able to lift to 25 pounds
Environmental Conditions: Work will require both indoor and outdoor working conditions, including extreme weather conditions.
