POSITION SUMMARY: The Grasshopper Director is responsible for the direct supervision, coordination, and daily operations of the Grasshopper Lawn Service Program. The program provides lawn mowing, limited tree trimming or cutting, and debris removal services to eligible tribal members who are 62 years of age or older and/or disabled.

The Director oversees lawn mower technicians, ensuring services are delivered safely, efficiently, and respectfully to the community. The position is responsible for scheduling services, maintaining equipment and supplies, supervising personnel, managing service requests, and ensuring program operations follow Comanche Nation policies and procedures.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Supervises and coordinates the daily activities of lawn mower technicians participating in the Grasshopper Program and may have to assist in cutting grass and trees.
Interviews, recommends, and assists with the hiring of Grasshopper personnel in accordance with Comanche Nation hiring policies.
Develops and maintains employee work schedules and assigns service routes to technicians.
Dispatches service calls received from tribal members requesting lawn mowing, limited tree trimming/cutting, and debris removal services.
Ensures services are delivered to eligible clients in a timely and professional manner.
Oversees the safe performance of lawn mowing, yard maintenance, tree trimming/cutting, and removal of yard debris such as fallen limbs, brush, and yard waste.
Processes employee timesheets and verifies hours worked for payroll submission.
Maintains accurate employee personnel files and program documentation.
Orders and maintains equipment, supplies, and replacement parts necessary for lawn maintenance equipment including lawn mowers, weed eaters, chainsaws, and other yard maintenance tools.
Ensures proper maintenance, repair, and safe operation of all program equipment.
Monitors staff performance and ensures compliance with workplace safety practices.
Maintains communication with program participants and clients to address service needs or concerns.
Prepares monthly program reports.
Assists with other duties as assigned by the Tribal Administrator.

 

REPORTS TO: The Grasshoppers Director reports to the Tribal Administrator.

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES AND REPORTING:

The Grasshopper Director is responsible for the supervision and oversight of employees through the Grasshopper Program.

Responsibilities include staff scheduling, work assignments, monitoring job performance, ensuring safety compliance, and verifying completion of assigned work.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: 

Combination of office work and occasional outdoor field activities.
Ability to walk, stand, bend, stoop, and move around job sites while inspecting work areas or equipment.
May occasionally assist with or observe lawn maintenance, tree trimming, and debris removal operations.
Ability to lift and carry light to moderate equipment or supplies (up to approximately 40 pounds) when necessary.
Ability to travel to various service locations within the program service area.
Ability to operate standard office equipment, including computers, telephones, printers, and copiers.
Must have the ability to observe and monitor field activities to ensure safety and proper program operations.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT:      

Work is performed in both office and outdoor environments.
Office duties are performed at the Comanche Nation Headquarters, including scheduling services, dispatching crews, maintaining records, and coordinating program operations.
Outdoor duties may involve visiting residential service locations where lawn mowing, tree trimming, and debris removal services are performed.
Outdoor work may include exposure to heat, cold, wind, rain, dust, grass, and uneven terrain typical of landscaping and grounds maintenance activities.
May be present around operating lawn maintenance equipment, including lawn mowers, weed eaters, chainsaws, and other landscaping tools.
Must follow established workplace safety practices when observing or supervising field operations.

QualificationsQUALIFICATIONS:

Required Qualifications

High School Diploma or GED required.
Minimum two (2) years of experience in supervision, workforce programs, landscaping, grounds maintenance, or a related field.
Valid Oklahoma Driver’s License with a good driving record.
Ability to operate standard office equipment including a multiline telephone system, copier, scanner, and fax machine.
Basic working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
