Girard College is seeking a committed, knowledgeable, and enthusiastic individual for the dual role of Assistant Varsity Boys’ Basketball Coach and Head Middle School Boys’ Basketball Coach. The ideal candidate will support the Head Varsity Coach in all aspects of the high school program, while also leading the middle school team with integrity and enthusiasm. This individual will help foster a positive, high-energy basketball culture that reflects the mission and values of Girard College.

- Head Varsity Boys’ Basketball Coach
Qualifications:
- Prior coaching experience at the middle school, high school, AAU, collegiate, or professional level preferred
- Completion of PIAA coaching education requirements by the time of hire
- Strong communication and organizational skills
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with student-athletes, coaches, faculty, staff, and families
- Must pass all required background checks
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record
Key Responsibilities:
High School (Varsity Assistant Coach):
- Assist the Head Coach in planning and conducting varsity practices, games, and team activities
- Support skill development, team strategies, and in-game adjustments
- Promote sportsmanship, discipline, and a team-first mentality
- Assist with game-day preparation and team logistics
- Serve as a positive role model for student-athletes both on and off the court
Middle School (Head Coach):
- Lead all aspects of the middle school boys’ basketball program
- Plan and run practices, coordinate game schedules, and manage team communication
- Teach basketball fundamentals, rules, and sportsmanship appropriate for middle school athletes
- Foster a positive, respectful, and inclusive team environment
- Monitor academic progress and support overall student development
- Communicate regularly with players, families, and school staff regarding schedules and expectations
Program & Community Support:
- Assist in planning and executing summer basketball day camps
- Support the Head Coach and Admissions Office in identifying and engaging prospective student-athletes (grades 6–9)
- Represent Girard College Athletics in a positive and professional manner within the local community
Qualifications
Required Skills:
- Solid knowledge of basketball rules, fundamentals, and strategies
- Ability to connect with and motivate student-athletes at both middle and high school levels
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build trust with students and families
- Flexible and team-oriented mindset with a willingness to follow direction and lead when needed
