About the role
Closing Date: October 22, 2023Teck Alaska Incorporated, Red Dog Operations (RDO), one of the world's largest producers of zinc concentrate, is recruiting for a Senior Metallurgical Engineer (Senior Metallurgist). Due to anticipated needs, we are currently recruiting for a career oriented individual to fill this role. Reporting to the Principal Metallurgist, the Senior Metallurgist is responsible for supporting continuous improvement projects within the concentrator for optimization of grinding, flotation, dewatering and water treatment.Rotation schedule will be two weeks on-site and two weeks off-site.Responsibilities

:
- Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures, leading safety investigations and participating in safety tours
- Conduct metallurgical analysis and technical interpretation of data to provide improvement methods, recommend optimization opportunities, and demonstrate problem solving
- Identification, planning and execution of technical development projects
- Optimize existing milling processes by evaluating and implementing process continuous improvement projects and test programs
- Improve metallurgical plant processes and procedures by evaluating new technology and recommending implementation where cost effective
- Draft capital Appropriation Requests (ARs) and Project Charters for projects predicted to advance targets for metal production, recovery, concentrate grade quality, reduced risk of injury or hazard or reduced cost of production.
- Manage the work and safety compliance of consulting personnel for duration of specific projects while they are on site at RDO
- Complete assigned work in a professional manner, including necessary measurements, calculations, analyses, interpretations, reporting and recommendations
- Communicate effectively with operating, analytical and maintenance groups to ensure optimum utilization of resources
- Assist in the development of other metallurgical engineers, technicians, and operators
- Assume the role of Principal Metallurgist in his/her absence
- Perform other related duties as assigned
:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mineral Processing, Metallurgical Engineering, Chemical Engineering or related field
- Minimum of eight (8) years in an operating base metal concentrator or related industry
- Prior experience in lead/zinc operations with flotation experience would be considered a significant asset
- Demonstrated ability to analyze problems, prioritize issues and develop timely and cost-effective solutions
- Motivated self-starter with ability to multi-task and excel in a fast paced, dynamic environment
- Integrity, time management and strong work ethic
- Capable of working with all levels of the organization and in a team environment
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to articulate ideas and communicate needs in a concise manner
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office Software
- Self-motivated with the ability to prioritize and execute multiple tasks
