Description

 A Brief Overview

The Grants & Contracts Specialist I will be responsible for the initial review of contracts and will be responsible for negotiations for Clinical Trial Agreements with assigned Departments within the UHCMC Clinical Research Center.

What You Will Do
  • Reviews submitted grants and contracts, including budgets, of protocols for basic research studies with the assistance of the Law Department. 50%
  • Coordinates with Research Finance and research department to ensure fiscally responsible negotiated non-complex lower value sponsor research budgets. 30%
  • Assures the timely processing of administration of UHC protocols and grants. 10%
  • Maintains accurate administrative records including database entries. 10%

  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Complies with all policies and standards.
  • For specific duties and responsibilities, refer to documentation provided by the department during orientation.
  • Must abide by all requirements to safely and securely maintain Protected Health Information (PHI) for our patients. Annual training, the UH Code of Conduct and UH policies and procedures are in place to address appropriate use of PHI in the workplace.
 

Qualifications

 Education
  • Bachelor's Degree in areas of Finance, Business or Law (Required)
  • Master's Degree in areas of Finance, Business or Law (Preferred)
Work Experience
  • 1+ years Emphasis in the area of Finance and prior grant and contract administration involving research. A Master's Degree or advanced degree will be considered in lieu of research administration experience). (Required) and
  • Experience in clinical trial research and budget construction (Preferred)
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
  • Excellent communication, writing and editing skills . (Required proficiency)
  • Working knowledge of applications including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook. (Required proficiency)
  • Individual will be to learn Cost Accounting principles for grant administration in academic institutions (circulars A-110, A-21 and A-133). (Required proficiency)
  • General PC skills and ability to organize and multi-task is a must (Required proficiency)
Licenses and Certifications
  • Certification in Human Subjects Protection (CITI) (Required)
  • Will train to become a Certified Contract Coordinator (CCC). (Required)
