Fire Prevention Services ensures a safe environment for faculty, staff, and students by providing an up-to-date prevention program. Our fire safety professionals monitor all university buildings for compliance with local and state requirements and work closely with the community to perform the inspections and drills necessary to lower the risk and potential repercussions of fire on campus.

Purpose
The Lead Fire Inspector is responsible for overseeing the fire inspections team to ensure compliance with fire safety codes and regulations. This role involves coordinating and supervising fire inspections and fire drills, scheduling and managing fire inspections staff for special events, reviewing and approving permits, engaging in public education and outreach, and investigating fire incidents. The Lead Fire Inspector plays a critical role in protecting lives and property at The University of Texas at Austin.
Responsibilities
- Assists with maintaining records regarding inspections, investigations, and equipment inventory. Performs related duties as required.
- Coordinate resources and personnel related to university special events and venues that house large assembly occupancies to ensure public safety. Manage staff scheduling and liaise with the university's fire alarm shop to coordinate system disablement for fire watch duties during performances.
