The Payroll Manager supervises and coordinates the day-to-day payroll operations ensuring that over 30,000 associates in nearly all states are paid timely and accurately, adherence to various federal, state & local laws as well as company policies & SOX Controls. What you will do – Essential Responsibilities 

As a Payroll Manager, you will: 

  • Oversee payroll processing activities while ensuring accounting accuracy, completeness, adherence to SOX Controls; manage resources appropriately to balance workload and ensure key performance metrics are met. 

  • Drive team performance by managing the on-boarding & training process, setting clear expectations, and measuring results; participate in the performance management process, including performance reviews, team & individual development. 

  • Identify training, education, and upskilling needs within the team; deploy as needed to ensure operational targets are maintained as well as accounting policies and procedures are followed appropriately.        

  • Collaborate with the team and business partners to identify, design, and implement process improvements for greater efficiency and effectiveness.       

  • Analyze department metrics, including staff productivity and key performance metrics; recommend solutions to drive execution or improve performance.     

  • Provide recommendations to Payroll Leadership and the Company to support continued compliance.  

  • Conduct periodic reviews of pay rules. 

  • Ensure adherence to payroll SOX controls and provide recommendation for changes to controls, driving for compliance, accuracy, and efficiency. 

  • Lead and participate as a subject matter expert for payroll in projects that span multiple departments and/or the company as new initiatives are deployed to meet business goals. 

  • Assist the Senior Manager and/or Director with staff communications, issue resolution, goal setting, and maintaining fiduciary duties and accounting standards.

  • Ability to travel as needed. 

  • Must be able to sit onsite, as requested, at CarMax’s Home Office in Richmond, Virginia 

 

 

Internal Candidates: Successful completion of Entry MAP or MDP required. 

 

Education and/or Experience 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance preferred, or equivalent experience requir
