The Role

Design, develop and maintain the organization’s Emergency Preparedness Program and procedures for the facility and its equipment.  Coordinate with RadCon and the Fire Emergency Planning Team on all fire drills that require firefighter participation, ensuring fire drill scenarios meet the tactics, training and physical requirements for firefighter safety.  Review industry trends for best practices in fire prevention, extinguishment and training and ensure firefighter training requirements meet or exceed all OSHA and NFPA training standards. Coordinates with all in yard naval vessel DCAs to ensure emergency firefighting equipment for each vessel is staged, inventoried and maintained in ready response status. Prepares MOU/MOA for arriving ships regarding fire drills and responsibilities.  Liaison with local Fire Department Training Officers, Fire Marshals and Ship's Fire Marshal for drill planning, training assistance and command & control familiarity.  Leads a project team to plan, schedule and conduct a wide range of complex facility/or site Emergency Preparedness drills and exercises. Provides coordination with local, State and Federal Emergency Planners.

 

Respond to fire emergencies and conduct comprehensive fire investigations as warranted. Prepare necessary correspondence, reports and records with analyze findings and prepare reports and recommendations. Investigate fire and near misses to determine trends, origin and cause, and categorize the fires and hazard category. Maintain certifications to remain current on fire prevention codes, building codes, procedures, rules and policies used in the US, company, as well as local. Performing inspections of both new and existing buildings for fire protection evaluation and needs. Occasionally witness various tests required for fire protection equipment and verifying proper operation and compliance with applicable codes and standards. Assist with plans for new buildings, alterations/additions, and various types of fire protection equipment. Read, interpret and make additions to building plans, Ships drawings and specifications pertaining to Fire Protection and Prevention. Update the location of temporary firefighting equipment aboard new hull during construction by evaluating current work and fire risks onboard the vessel and adding or removing fire protection.

 

Support NNS Facilities departments to ensure regulation, local code enforcement, and code compliance with buildings, alarm systems, sprinkler systems, and others to mitigate any company loss, injuries/deaths, or other type of business interruption. Support trades and programs for fire protection methods to mitigate the fire hazards onboard vessels through improved processes and procedures. Evaluate any fire hazard issues onboard the vessels inside the company. Support contracts on requirements for Fire protection on overhaul and new construction to ensure requirements are added and costed properly.

Must Have

Bachelor’s degree in an area of study relevant to this position and more than 6 years experience in emergency management with a law enforcement, public or private sector security organization.

One of the following may be used as equivalent to Bachelor's Degree to meet minimum qualifications:

• NNS Apprentice School graduate 
• Navy Nuclear Power School (NNPS) graduate
• Associate's Degree or other formal 2 year program and 2 years of relevant exempt experience or 4 years of relevant non-exempt experience
• Military Paygrade E-5 or above military experience 
• High School/GED and 4 years combined of Manufacturing, Shipbui
