POSITION TITLE: Assistant Cheer Coach
DEPARTMENT: Athletic Department
SUPERVISOR: Head Cheer Coach

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The assistant coach is responsible for assisting the head coach in all management aspects of the team. The assistant coach must assist the head coach with practice, games, competitions, fundraising, and recruitment of athletes in accordance with university and NAIA rules and regulations. Assistant coaches must help ensure prospective student-athletes are aware of all policies and procedures in the university regulations and the CU Athletic Handbook.

STANDARD EXPECTATIONS:

  • Assist with planning and instruction of practices, games, competitions, and other required events.
  • Ability to assist in choreographing/cleaning routines for competitions, clinics, and game performances.
  • Identify, evaluate, recruit, and retain team members to Cumberland University.
  • Helps ensure program recruiting activities adhere to University and NAIA policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of elite level cheerleading skills.
  • Conducts inventories of uniforms, supplies, and equipment to ensure effective maintenance of physical resources.
  • May represent the program at camps, recruiting events, conference championships, and national meetings relating specifically to competitive cheer and dance.
  • Works with the head coach and SID to provide accurate data for individual and team accomplishments, as well as competition results.
  • Assist the head coach with social media.
  • Assist the head coach with any other administrative duties needed.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Required: Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution of higher education

CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES:

  • Valid driver’s license
  • First Aid/CPR Certification (will be done at CU once hired)
  • USA Cheer Safety and Risk Management Training (will be done at CU once hired)

WORK EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum of two years coaching/work experience in the cheer industry at the high school or collegiate level
  • Collegiate cheer and dance experience preferred

REQUIRED SKILLS:

  • Must have the ability to work with Microsoft Office/Google Drive programs
  • Excellent teamwork and team building skills.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills
  • Strong work ethic
