About the role

Asana is looking for someone to lead our growing Global Payroll & Employment Tax functions. You will be a thought leader with a proven record of leading a global function and delivering scalable, employee customer-service focused payroll services. You will bring together our global team members and set a vision to scale our organization, process and technology to support Asanas continued employee growth and complexity. This is a high impact role with significant leadership accountability, with key partners in our Finance, People Operations and Legal organizations. Your success in this role involves an ability to think big and execute nimbly in order to transform our employee experience with compliance, security and accurate reporting. You will oversee and lead global expansion initiatives including managing the implementation of third-party vendors to ensure payroll accuracy and compliance in multiple countries. You will also manage the coaching, mentoring and leading the team who provide day-to-day payroll support. You will be equally comfortable delivering on operations goals and process transformation.

What you’ll achieve

  • Lead global payroll function with an integrated vision to enable our employees to support Asana’s mission with a secure, accurate and compliant payroll service offering.
  • Accelerate scale through leading automation and the introduction of advanced finance technologies, in partnership with our key stakeholders in finance, legal, tax and people operations. 
  • Deliver stellar customer service to employees, achieving this by being proactive, timely and adhering to well-established & measurable SLAs. 
  • Continuous enhancement (and implementation) of key performance metrics to effectively measure performance, compliance and effectiveness of the global payroll function. Implementation of an actionable program to achieve set targets.
  • Manage payroll vendors globally, ensuring they are delivering high quality service by implementing a robust monitoring program (i.e. audits, scorecards, etc).
  • Adopt a controls first approach, ensuring a robust Internal Control environment and SOX compliant process. Partner with the Corporate Accounting and Internal Audit teams.
  • Builds a global payroll team that is ready to serve in a hypergrowth, fast paced environment. Through mentoring and coaching, develop subject matter expertise across the team on all payroll related matters (i.e. benefits, tax, exempt and nonexempt reporting compliance for domestic and international employees).
  • Oversee and lead tax and regulatory reporting, quarter end and year-end payroll activities, including wage and hour laws, unemployment, and all other required submissions globally.

About you

  • Minimum of 15+ years global payroll experience at a publicly traded company
  • Workday and ADP experience strongly preferred
  • Technical skills evidenced by recognized payroll and stock admin certifications (CPP, PHR, HRIP)
  • Experience to Shared Services and/or Outsourced Payroll Vendor Model preferred
  • Project management experience including the ability to manage project plans, dependencies, critical path activities and milestones
  • Familiarity with stock-based compensation programs as it relates to payroll processing requirements (RSU, ESPP)
  • Strong aptitude and proficiency in Excel and advanced analytical skills 
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting/Finance or similar

For this role, the estimated base salary range is between $190,000- $256,000. The actual base salary will vary based on various factors, including market and individual qualifications objectively assessed during the interview process. The listed range above is a guideline, and the base salary range for this role may be modified.
