About the Team
Workday’s Cloud Connectivity team is a dynamic group of Software Development Engineers and Site Reliability Engineers (SREs) focused on building and maintaining the foundational connectivity and service mesh infrastructure that powers Workday’s services in the public cloud. We are responsible for ensuring secure, reliable, and efficient communication between our microservices and data centers. Our team values automation, continuous improvement, and collaboration to deliver highly available and scalable solutions. We are constantly exploring and adopting new cloud-native technologies to enhance our platform. This role will support one or more direct or indirect contracts with the U.S. Federal Government which, due to federal government security requirements, mandates that all Workday personnel working on the contracts be United States citizens (naturalized or native).
Workday is seeking a dedicated and motivated Software Development Engineer to join our Cloud Connectivity team. In this role, you will be instrumental in the development, deployment, and operation of Workday’s service mesh infrastructure, demonstrating modern service technologies. You will work closely with other engineers and SREs to build robust, scalable, and highly available solutions that enable seamless communication and traffic management for our microservices in the public cloud. This role offers a great opportunity to work with ground breaking cloud-native technologies and contribute to the core infrastructure of a leading enterprise SaaS platform.
Responsibilities Include:
Design, develop, and implement solutions for managing and operating Workday’s global service mesh.
Contribute to the automation of service mesh deployment, configuration, and lifecycle management using infrastructure-as-code principles.
Develop and maintain tools and scripts to monitor the health, performance, and security of the service mesh infrastructure.
Collaborate with development teams to onboard their services onto the service mesh and provide guidance on standard methodologies.
Participate in on-call rotations to ensure the availability and reliability of the service mesh and related connectivity infrastructure.
Fix and resolve incidents related to the service mesh and network connectivity, working with multi-functional teams as needed.
Implement changes to production systems with a focus on minimizing risk and ensuring stability.
Contribute to the design and implementation of observability solutions (logging, metrics, tracing) for the service mesh.
Document technical designs, operational procedures, and fixing guides.
Actively participate in code reviews and knowledge sharing within the team.
