Title: Associate Director of Residential Life and Housing Operations

Description: The Associate Director of Residential Life and Housing is a live-on residential life professional who reports to the Director of Residential Life and Community Standards and serves as the primary Operations Officer within Residential Life.  This professional works directly on housing occupancy management, including move in, move out, room changes, housing selection, and specialty housing processes and serves as the primary liaison to the Office of Student Accounts. In addition to operations work, they will manage the day-to-day operations of multiple residence halls and supervise student workers in the following capacities:  Senior Resident Advisors (1-2) and Resident Advisors (10-16).  The AD will work directly with students living in their buildings to develop educational, respectful, inclusive and engaged living learning environments for 300-450 students.

Responsibilities
  • Manages multiple residence halls day-to-day operations, supports student contact, facilities liaison, and develops community.  
  • Student Staff supervision and evaluation - Directly supervises and trains up to 16 Resident Advisors (student staff) and 1-2 Senior Resident Advisors.
  • Assists Director and Associate Director in development, implementation and assessment of RA and professional staff training based in the residential curriculum .
  • Run weekly staff meetings in partnership with Senior Resident Advisors and conduct weekly or bi-weekly one-on-one meetings with their SRAs and RAs.
  • Oversees building programming efforts; creates lesson plans for RAs based on the learning outcomes of the residential curriculum, takes lead on assessment of curriculum for their area.
  • Assists in the processing of room change, early arrival and break housing requests and processes students on the housing waitlist in a timely manner.
  • Administers housing selection process for returning students in spring semester.
  • Oversees first year housing assignments in collaboration with Residential Life and Housing staff.
  • Oversees specialty housing processes including theme housing and living learning communities.
  • Oversees housing exemption process and accommodations housing process for returning students.
  • Serves as the primary user of the housing software to support the department’s functionality.
  • Collaborates with the Director of Residential Life and Community Standards to coordinate residence hall openings/closings.
  • Develops and implements marketing campaigns to support housing occupancy goals. 
  • Presents information on meal plans and housing operations to various constituents across campus including the Dean of Students, the Board of Trustees, and Finance.
  • Provides support during crisis situations; meeting with students as needed and providing referrals to Hartwick College resources. 
  • Participates in professional staff on-call rotation.
  • Assist with managing phone calls that come to the Office of Residential Life including family and student concerns.
  • Manages marketing and distribution of fundraising efforts and works with vendors, including, but not limited to: Dormify, Microfridge, Vivid Media, and DormRoomMovers.
  • Oversees key management for the office including ordering core changes for lost keys, summer rekey processes, key code updates, and room change key exchanges.
  • Serves as a hearing officer for low level violations of the Code of Community Standards.
  • Supports efforts of office Residential Curriculum and participates by creating lesson plans that meet learning outcomes.
  • Participate in significant campus activities including WickWeek, True Blue Weekend, Accepted Students Day, and Commencement Weekend.
  • Expected to comply with all applicable College, Federal, State, local and associational laws, rules and regulations.  
  • As a representative of the College, employee is expected to comport themselves in a professional manner at all times, both on and off campus. 
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications: Minimum requirements for this position are a Master’s degree from an accredited college or university with preference to those in student personnel, higher education administration, or counseling.  3-5 years of progressive experience working in residential life or student affairs.
