Department Summary

The Center for Human Identification (CHI) is an accredited forensic laboratory on the campus of The University of North Texas Health Science Center at Fort Worth. With funding from the State of Texas and various Federal Government agencies, CHI supports forensic DNA testing, anthropological examinations, local CODIS operations, training, and various research and development initiatives. CHI also manages the Texas Missing Persons DNA Database.

Position Overview

Conduct specialized forensic DNA analysis on samples submitted for criminal, civil and missing persons investigations to establish the identity and/or source of biological materials through the use of novel methods in Forensic Genetic Genealogy. Maintain and provide accurate testing and quality control records and provide legal testimony as to the methods used and results obtained in forensic examinations in the areas of Targeted SNP Testing, MicroArray Analysis and Whole Genome Sequencing.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree and four (4) years' of related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree or an advanced degree in biology, chemistry, or forensic science related area and a minimum of four (4) years of experience as a qualified Forensic DNA Analyst (or equivalent title) in an accredited forensic DNA laboratory; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Applicant must have completed coursework (graduate or undergraduate level) covering the following subject areas: biochemistry, genetics, molecular biology, statistics and/or population genetics.

Required License/Registration/Certifications

  • Applicant must be able to apply for and obtain a Forensic Analyst license from the Texas Forensic Science Commission prior to beginning any casework duties.

Job Duties:

  • Casework examination of cold cases following all Quality Assurance and Procedure Manual guidelines. 
  • Supervise instrument maintenance and ensure that instrumentation is in proper working order; troubleshoot quality assurance and instrument issues as needed.
