Description
The Department of Pharmacology at the University of Virginia seeks to fill a tenure-ineligible Research Assistant Professor position on the Research Support track.
The focus of this position is to develop a research program in the molecular biophysics and modulatory mechanisms of ion channels in heterologous and native cell systems, with an emphasis on their roles in different pathophysiological contexts. The successful applicant will have experience in patch clamp electrophysiology and cellular imaging, and an interest in applying those to cell systems relevant to immune and cardiorespiratory function. This individual will provide utilize modern electrophysiological and imaging approaches, develop new experimental and analytic systems, and work collaboratively with other faculty and trainees.
Qualifications
Applicants must have PhD and/or MD degree(s) with 5-7 years research experience by start date; they will have experience in establishing/utilizing the relevant experimental approaches, and instructing faculty, lab staff and trainees in their application. The qualified candidates are expected to have a genuine enthusiasm for scientific research, and an inclination to work productively in teams. The qualified individual is also expected to contribute to the writing of manuscripts and grants, with the goal of moving toward an independent research position.
