Job Overview:
The Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) is responsible for the day-to-day respiratory care services and therapy. Daily responsibilities include Respiratory Therapy training instruction to Deaconess Home Medical Equipment or its subsidiaries (hereafter HME) clients, working with the HME staff to ensure quality patient care and maintain compliance with all regulatory agencies. This position reports to the HME Sleep Services Supervisor and subject to duties as assigned by Lead Registered Respiratory Therapist.
Job duties include the following, other duties may be assigned
- Patient assessment and applicable vitals. Perform spirometry and Feno testing. These tasks involve the use of equipment to measure and monitor patients.
- Assist physicians with skin testing, clinical, food and medication challenges
- Assisting with management of anaphylaxis/systemic reactions as they occur in the department
- Immunotherapy mixing and injections
- Biologic therapy
- Competency training and MDI Coverage review
- Perform patient education including inhaler teaching technique, asthma education and action plan, smoking cessation education
- Maintain and document calibration of all equipment in accordance with departmental policy and manufacturer guidelines/recommendations.
- Troubleshoot equipment and acquiring data programs when needed.
- Support nursing leads and collaborate with physicians, nurses and office manager to improve clinical outcomes for allergy and asthma patients.
Required: Certifications/Licenses/Education:
Graduate of Accredited College/University Respiratory Therapy School. Minimum of two years experience in a home respiratory therapy program desired. Ability to increase knowledge of medical terminology, diagnosis codes, Medicare HCPC codes, and Medicare/Medicaid reimbursement knowledge required.
Preferred Certification/License/Experience:
- RCP License on IPLA
- RRT on NBRC
